Everton fans crucify Barkley after latest comments

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Everton fans have been reacting to some comments from Ross Barkley, as the England international thanked Everton for their role in his career.

Not too long ago, you’d be hard pushed to find a player in the Premier League with as much excitement around him as Barkley.

When the young Scouser broke into the Everton side, his unique mixture of pace, power, technique and vision, all mixed in with the odd wondergoal was stunning.

Check out Neymar’s controversial new haircut for 2019 and Xherdan Shaqiri as you’ve never seen him before in the video below…

The 25 year-old scored 21 Premier League goals for the Toffees, but he left the club in sour fashion last year.

The 25-cap England star joined Chelsea for a fee of around £15m in January 2018, per the BBC, just six months after the midfielder was expected to make the move for a heftier fee.

Barkley had instead remained at Goodison while he recovered from a hamstring injury, which also coincidentally allowed his contract to run down, lowering his transfer fee.

It’s fair to say fans haven’t forgiven the midfielder for the way his move played out, and they aren’t taking too kindly to his video message.

“Just want to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Everton academy for helping me get to where I am today”, he said in a message posted on England’s official Twitter account.

Barkley has made just nine Premier League starts in the 12 months since his move (Whoscored), and the Twitter reactions down below aren’t pretty…

Man Utd’s slow January would be worth it if summer move for Jadon Sancho materialises

Man Utd have had a slow January transfer window, with the Red Devils yet to sign anyone. Of course, that was always expected, given that they’re currently in somewhat of a transitionary period under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The board aren’t likely to be willing to invest big money under a boss that may not be there in six months.

However, that doesn’t mean that the Man Utd board aren’t working hard. Indeed, attention has already shifted to the summer window, at least if the latest exclusive report from the Metro is to be believed. According to the Metro, Man Utd are tracking Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho, with the club potentially looking to make a move in the summer.

Dortmund are said to value him at £90 million, which is a huge fee for the teenager, but Man Utd have shown a willingness to invest that sort of money in top talents – and Sancho certainly falls under that banner.

He’s enjoyed a fantastic season so far this year, with a brilliant return of 6 goals and 9 assists from just 12 league games. He offers incredible ability and drive down the flanks for Dortmund, and he’s regularly kept big-name Chelsea-bound attacker Christian Pulisic out of the team.

Significantly, Man Utd look to be building for the future, with Anthony Martial handed a new deal by the Red Devils. In Sancho, the Red Devils could have the ideal long-term partner for the Frenchman, especially with Alexis Sanchez struggling.

Make no mistake, Sancho is one of Europe’s best young players, and they’re always going to come at a premium.  He could help usher in a new era at Old Trafford.

Clarke banking on bad trainer Mulumbu to shine at Kilmarnock

[ad_pod ]

Steve Clarke is banking on Youssouf Mulumbu giving Kilmarnock’s season a timely boost.

The midfielder returned to Rugby Park on loan on the final day of the transfer window after failing to make any impact at Celtic.

Last season the former West Brom and Norwich midfielder was one of the driving forces behind Kilmarnock’s revival as Clarke lifted the club from the relegation battle to fifth spot in the Premiership.

Mulumbu was a match for any midfielder in the top flight but after taking one point from six in the games against Aberdeen and Hearts, the Killie boss is looking forward to getting his loan signing back into action.

“I think he was late on his first day, so it was a case of Youssouf is back!” Clarke said as quoted by The Daily Record. “He’s has never been one to stand out in training. He is a game player.

“Youssouf needs the big pitch and the game mentality before he comes to his best. We have two games this week so, if he doesn’t make the first, he will be fit for the second.”

Kilmarnock are at Dundee on Wednesday night and then host Rangers on Saturday in the Scottish Cup.

When Mulumbu joined Celtic at the end of August it looked like a cut price solution to a long-term issue.

The 32-year-old did make a reasonable impression in his three Celtic appearances but the emergence of Ryan Christie in the autumn closed the door on his Parkhead prospects.

Celtic head to Kilmarnock on February 17th, between the Europa League ties with Valencia, but Mulumbu will sit that one out as part of his loan agreement.

Potential Consequences: Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial injury blow

[ad_pod ]

As reported by Sky Sports, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will be out of action for two to three weeks, meaning they will miss the FA Cup clash with Chelsea on Monday night and next weekend’s Northwest Derby.

It’s a massive blow for the Red Devils with both players featuring prominently during Solskjaer’s interim spell in charge, but could there be some unforeseen benefits to their absences? Football FanCast look at the potential consequences of the injury news below…

Game-plan set for Liverpool clash

Romelu Lukaku proved a revelation on the right wing in the last round, providing two beautiful assists against Arsenal, and while the same ploy didn’t quite work in the following game versus Burnley when he was subbed off after 67 minutes, we could see Solskjaer use the Belgium international in that capacity once again on Monday night.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Theo Ogden was at the Emirates on Friday to see Alexis Sanchez come back to haunt Arsenal. Check out Gunners’ fans reactions in the video below…

After all, Solskjaer’s options on the right flank are pretty limited and redeploying Lukaku there makes far more sense in the big games, where he’ll be given the space on the counter-attack to sneak behind full-backs that push up the field. Much like Sead Kolasinac, Marcos Alonso certainly falls into that category as Eden Hazard’s serial overlapper.

And should the same trick work twice against a big six opponent, the chances are that Solskjaer will feel compelled to use it once again next weekend when Liverpool come to Old Trafford.

Tahith Chong gets his chance

There’s plenty of hype surrounding United youngster Tahith Chong and after Solskjaer alluded to game-time for young players in his pre-match press conference, there’s every chance the 19-year-old will play some role on Monday night – although a starting berth seems unlikely.

Should Solskjaer opt to start Lukaku on the right wing, the fellow left-footer represents a viable Plan B or simply a respite option late on, as another player who can cut inside and shoot.

Chong featured against Reading in the FA Cup’s Third Round and with an abundance of caps for the Netherlands at youth level, a game against high-quality opposition with slightly less pressure than a Premier League clash feels like a good opportunity to further bed him in.

Alexis Sanchez in last-chance saloon

Alexis Sanchez looks pretty certain to replace Martial on the left wing, but it’s clear Solskjaer’s running out of patience with the former Arsenal man, telling reports there’s nothing he can do about his staggering downturn in form over the last 12 months.

It already fells like the end is nigh for Sanchez, regardless of who is in charge at Old Trafford next season, but Martial’s absence gives him an invaluable opportunity to try and reverse the tide with a goal or an assist. That will bring back some much-needed confidence too.

Of course, playing well against Chelsea doesn’t guarantee anything – but a substandard performance will serve as another nail in the coffin.

Leeds fans react to Dan James’ stunning FA Cup performance

[ad_pod ]

Dan James scored a quite stunning goal in Swansea City’s 4-1 win over Brentford in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Swansea fell behind in the 28th minute, but levelled early in the second period before James sent the Welsh outfit ahead with an eye-catching individual effort.

Indeed, running from the edge of his own box, James blasted clear of a number of Brentford players before hitting the onion bag.

The 21-year-old, who was involved in two more of his team’s four goals on Sunday, was strongly linked with a move to Leeds United during the January transfer window.

Indeed, he passed a medical with the Whites on deadline day, only for Swansea to pull out of the deal.

A number of Leeds fans watched James in action on Sunday afternoon, with many taking to social media to comment on the midfielder’s performance, which inspired his team to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Sheffield Wednesday fans react as Fernando Forestieri is sent off for celebrating

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to react after Fernando Forestieri was given a second yellow card for his celebrations following Dominic Iorfa’s last-gasp equaliser against Rotherham.

The Italian forward was given his marching orders after an incident with a fan who had invaded the pitch, and the former Watford man was then met by the referee upon his journey back to the centre circle.

Strangely, a few other Wednesday players were seen celebrating with the fans, but it was Forestieri who faced the consequences after appearing to high-five a supporter who was being escorted from the pitch.

Forestieri scored in the game himself with an excellent, well-taken finish, but Wednesday will now be without their star man after the controversial decision to give him his marching orders.

Owls boss Steve Bruce said: “It was a ridiculous red card.

“It is what we play football for to score in the last minute and celebrate with your supporters. Why didn’t the ref send off the other 10 who were jumping in the crowd as well?”

It is hard to see what the referee is thinking when making his decision, and it will now see Bruce missing his talisman.

The Wednesday fans on Twitter were not happy with the decision, especially after Forestieri was on the receiving end of some brutal challenges earlier in the game…

The Chalkboard: Fabinho must be the first name on Liverpool’s team sheet

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool swept Watford aside at Anfield for the third year running on Wednesday, and Fabinho proved that he is now the Reds’ most important midfielder with a Mascherano-esque performance.

Liverpool desperately needed a big performance and result on Wednesday night, and that’s exactly what they got.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was magnificent, Virgil van Dijk was his usual self with an extra dose of goals and Mohamed Salah looked back to his best despite not finding the back of the net.

No one impressed more than Fabinho though, who completely dominated the middle third and proved once and for all that he is the star man in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.

Mascherano 2.0?

Fabinho had to wait for his chance at Anfield, as the 25 year-old didn’t start a Premier League match until late October, but he has not looked back since breaking into the side.

He produced a stunning performance at home to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, but his true breakout came in December, when he dominated wins against Manchester United and Wolves.

The Brazilian international has since been forced to fill in at right-back and centre back, both of which he has done with little difficulty, and Wednesday’s performance felt like the culmination of everything he has learned so far under Klopp.

The ex-Monaco ace was tenacious in the tackle, read the game expertly, and most importantly he always looked forward with the ball, breaking lines with high-tempo, incisive passing.

Liverpool have not had a truly elite defensive midfielder since Javier Mascherano left the club back in 2010, but Fabinho might even be better than the feisty Argentinian, as his skills on the ball are far superior.

Bad news for Henderson

His form could be bad news for Jordan Henderson – the two don’t really fit in the same team because they attempt to cover the same spaces, which sacrifices attacking returns.

Negative passing is always the most common criticism levelled at Henderson, and it was one that you simply cannot fire at Fabinho as he constantly looks over the top to his pacey wingers.

The Brazilian international is well and truly coming into his own, and with fans calling him the midfield version of Virgil van Dijk, it could be very hard for Henderson to force his way back into the side.

Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi wanted by Schalke amid work permit doubts

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly on the radar of Bundesliga side Schalke, who are said to be monitoring the forward’s availability amid doubts over his chances of obtaining a work permit.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Nigerian international has been on the Reds’ books since 2015, but he is yet to make a senior appearance for the club as he does not qualify for a work permit.

The 21-year-old has had loan spells with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen and Gent since signing for Liverpool, and is currently out on loan with Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron – his second stint at the club.

Who has the loudest fans in Europe? PSG certainly state their claim in the video below…

Awoniyi has impressed for the Pro League side this season, notching six goals in seven games since returning to the club in January after spending the first half of the campaign with Gent.

Liverpool would want a fee in excess of £13m for the youngster if his work permit status is not resolved, whilst they are also open to another loan deal.

Bad news for English clubs

The Merseysiders offered Awoniyi an improved five-year contract extension last summer, which he duly signed, but the Reds’ hopes of seeing the young Nigerian in action for them will surely be dealt a blow by the impending introduction of Brexit.

Under the incoming rules, players such as Jorginho, Riyad Mahrez and Alexandre Lacazette would have struggled to qualify for a work permit to play in the Premier League – it would be near impossible for the Algerian international Mahrez to have made the move to Leicester he did back in 2014 under the incoming restrictions.

For players of that calibre not to be allowed to play in England speaks volumes about young prospects such as Awoniyi ever getting the chance to play here, which is bad news for English clubs but great news for teams such as Schalke who are monitoring Awoniyi’s situation.

Liverpool fans may never get to see the youngster wear the badge in front of them, despite their obvious high hopes for him.

4-1-4-1: Man City’s potential 2019/20 line-up including Tanguy Ndombele

Man City’s spending over the last year or so has been about evolution, rather than revolution, under Pep Guardiola. After spending big during his debut season in England, he’s since reigned it in, instead focusing on improving a select few areas at the Etihad.

For example, bringing in Rihad Mahrez has helped to improve the attacking depth without replacing any of the brilliant performers from last season. There’s no need for City to bring in 10 world class players because they’ve already got a great squad, but what they do continue to need is minor improvements.

Particularly, the centre of the midfield is an area needing attention. Fernandinho is 33-years-old, and the Brazilian can’t keep playing every week forever.

Fortunately, this is an area that City are apparently looking to improve, at least according to the Express. The English publication is reporting that Tanguy NDombele of Lyon is a target of the Citizens. A natural central midfielder, he’d certainly fit right into the team in place of Fernandinho, and his arrival could give City’s team a new lease on life heading into next season.

Whilst there’s a lot of football still to play at the Etihad this term, it’s important to think about next year, and what could City’s team look like, especially if Ndombele arrives?

In goal, it’s hard to look past Ederson. The Brazilian has been brilliant since moving to the Etihad, and his skill with the ball at his feet makes him vital to the way that this team works. City would struggle to find better than him, and he’ll keep his place for a long while yet.

In defence, there’s a lot of scope for change, but who could get the nod? Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker seem like obvious choices on the flanks, as whilst both have had their own issues this term – like fitness and form concerns – the reality is that they’re undeniably the best players in their respective roles at the club. In the heart of the defence, there are some decisions to make. Who should start out of Vincent Kompany, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi? It’s very tough, but Laporte’s very impressive form would make him a good choice, you’d think. Alongside him, Vincent Kompany makes sense – helping to build the young and old dynamic – but Stones or Otamendi would be good alongside either man too.

In midfield, Ndombele would fit as the number 6 in this time in place of Fernandihno. There’s he’d be charged with ensuring that the Man City defence is protected, whilst it’s also important that he drives forward with the ball and is positive in the midfield. He’ll be the bridge between the defence and the attack, and with his great range of passing, dribbling and tackling, he’d be a great fit. He’s a jack of all trades, and at 22-years-old, he’s only getting better.

Man City’s attack is filled with quality, and nothing that hasn’t already been said can be mentioned. Between Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero, City have five of the best and most deadly players in European football, and they’re all at the peak of their powers. There is unlikely to be much change here because there’s simply no need for it.

Ndombele would only be a single addition to this team, but he’d add some much-needed youth to the outfit, and though he’d likely trade places with Fernandinho during his first season, he’d be the long-term option at the Etihad.

Man City fans – is this where Ndombele would fit in? Would Kompany still play? Let us know below!

Man of the moment: Liverpool fans laud Sadio Mane as he keeps his remarkable form up

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have lauded Sadio Mane after the forward kept his remarkable run of form going with a match-winning brace against Bayern Munich, which sent the Reds into the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Senegalese attacker has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 games across all competitions, at a crucial stage of the season in which Mohamed Salah has embarked on a barren spell in front of goal.

Mo Salah has been brutally mocked for his recent diving antics in a new video by 442oons. Check it out below…

Jurgen Klopp will be extremely grateful that Mane has upped his game in the business end to the campaign, and his exquisite double against the Bavarians has got Liverpool fans singing his praises – he now has 22 goals for the season, a personal best for the 26-year-old.

The former Southampton man’s first strike in particular was a thing of beauty, in which he expertly trapped Virgil van Dijk’s long ball, turned Manuel Neuer inside out and then dinked it into the far corner.

Let’s see what the Reds supporters are saying about their in-form star on Twitter…
