Aston Villa: Monchi Ready To Pay Release Clause For £25m "Machine"

An update has emerged on Aston Villa and their pursuit of a fourth first-team signing of the summer transfer window…

What's the latest Aston Villa transfer news?

According to the Daily Mail, the Villans are prepared to meet the £25m release clause of Leeds United defensive midfielder Tyler Adams ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The report claims that the USA international is available for that fee due to the club's relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, with Unai Emery now preparing to take advantage of it.

Read the latest Aston Villa transfer news HERE…

It states that fellow top-flight sides Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, and Chelsea are also keen on the former RB Leipzig man, which means that Villa have plenty of competition in the race to land his services.

How good is Tyler Adams?

Despite Leeds failing to avoid the drop down to the Championship, the 24-year-old engine showcased his ability to be a consistently impressive performer at Premier League level and could be an excellent addition to Emery's squad.

He is a destructive midfielder who is capable of constantly cutting out opposition attacks to win back possession for his side and could, therefore, form an excellent partnership with current Villans star Boubacar Kamara.

Adams started 24 top-flight matches for the Whites last season and averaged an excellent Sofascore rating of 6.98, which would have placed him fourth amongst the Villa squad.

This shows that he put in superb displays in midfield for Leeds and could be one of Emery's top performers if he is able to translate that form over to Villa Park this season.

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams.

The USMNT international recorded such a high score in part due to his outstanding defensive work. He made a terrific 3.7 tackles per game last term, which is 1.3 more per match more than any Villans player managed.

Adams, who was once lauded as a “machine” by journalist Wes Rucker, also produced 1.5 interceptions per outing for the Whites, which would have made him joint-top with Tyrone Mings in Emery's side, as he displayed his ability to read the game to stop opposition passes.

Meanwhile, Kamara led the club for tackles per game with 2.4 and ranked fourth for interceptions per match with 0.8, which shows that the French battler was an outstanding player out of possession with his ability to regain the ball on a regular basis.

However, the ex-Marseille man did not offer much at the top end of the pitch as he created 0.3 chances per outing, which was worse than 11 of his teammates. Whereas, Adams made one key pass per clash and only four Villa players managed more than that last season.

This suggests that a pairing of Kamara and the Leeds warrior could thrive, as the latter has the creative quality to drive forward to ensure that the Villans still carry a threat in the final third, whilst still being phenomenal defensive anchors in midfield.

They could be a fearsome duo in the middle of the park when they are up against one of the big six sides or in the Europa Conference League and up against the odds, as they have the quality to protect the back four to consistently stop the other team from creating chances.

Taylor, Latham tons boost New Zealanders' prep

Mitchell Santner chipped in with three wickets as the visitors bowled the Board President’s XI out for 310, securing a 33-run victory in Mumbai

The Report by Annesha Ghosh in Mumbai19-Oct-2017Centuries from Ross Taylor and Tom Latham, whose 166-run fourth-wicket stand powered New Zealand to 343 for 9, consigned Board President’s XI to a 33-run defeat in the second warm-up match in Mumbai. Despite a four-wicket haul from left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat and fifties from Karun Nair and Gurkeerat Singh, New Zealand hung on to bowl the President’s XI out for 310 in the 48th over. ESPNcricinfo takes a look at the highlights from the game:Taylor-madeTaylor’s struggle in India last year was validated by his inability to register a half-century in five ODIs. On Thursday, he struck a punishing 102 which featured several glorious cover drives and perfectly-timed square-cuts. He was, however, handed a reprieve in the 32nd over, when Shreyas Iyer dropped a sharp chance at backward point. Taylor muscled 15 boundaries all around the ground – the most spectacular of those being an inside-out six over long-off, which was followed by a cut in Dhawal Kulkarni’s fifth over.Latham’s bid for the long haulIf the fifty in the previous game had been an unfulfilled statement of intent, Latham’s 97-ball 108 on Thursday was the step-up in class and confidence he needed. He used the same clinical application of his technique that had helped him finish as New Zealand’s highest run-scorer in the ODI series last year. Coming in at 73 for 3, Latham swept the spinners regularly, and had little trouble against pace. He brought up his century with a wristy six over deep square leg and hammered the next ball for a four before retiring out for 108. “It [the middle-order batting position] is obviously a little bit of change from the last couple of years but that is something that we have discussed about moving to that position. It was nice to get familiar with that role today,” Latham said of his knock. The Munro squibWith New Zealand coach Mike Hesson wanting quicker starts at the top of the order, Colin Munro opened the batting on both occasions in the warm-up games. He scored 26 in both innings, with his failure to capitalise on starts an indicator that his belligerent template may be better suited for the middle order. If the game offered anything for Munro to take heart from, it would be the two wickets of Iyer and Nair he snaffled off consecutive deliveries.Karn and turnEach of the eight overs Karn Sharma bowled featured, at least, one variation that elicited a collective sigh of agony either from the fielders or the 750-odd spectators that flocked to the Northern Block of the Brabourne Stadium. The one that took most of them by surprise came off the back of a tactful ploy. Called on to bowl the tenth over, Karn darted the first two balls of his opening spell full on a middle-and-leg line to Kane Williamson. He drew the New Zealand captain forward with the third – a relatively slower and loopy legbreak. Playing the line of the delivery, Williamson offered a meticulous front-foot defense. His failure to account for the late turn, however, meant the ball passed the outside edge and kissed the off stump. Karn finished with figures of 2 for 45.Guptill’s three chancesMartin Guptill, who laboured to a 46-ball 32, began his tryst with chance in the 13th over, when a Shahbaz Nadeem ripper turned square, but couldn’t be pouched by the wicketkeeper. In the next over, he swept Karn hard but was dropped by Avesh Khan at deep square leg, where the fielder barely had to move an inch to position himself for the catch. Nadeem subsequently let a caught-and-bowled opportunity through his legs in the 15th over, before Karn ended Guptill’s charmed life by holding on to a return catch in the following over.A late flourish in vainWhat seemed to be a forgone conclusion in the 28th over when Board President’s XI slumped to 158 for 6 was deferred until the 48th, courtesy a 46-ball 65 from Gurkeerat, who enthralled the spectators and agonised the opposition in equal measure with his lusty blows in the V. A 64-run, ninth-wicket stand between Kulkarni and Unadkat carried the hosts past 300, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Tottenham: Spurs Now Eyeing £45M Star After Van De Ven

Tottenham Hotspur are "set to move for another centre-back signing" and Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba is the "top target", according to reports.

Who will Spurs sign?

Spurs and chairman Daniel Levy have already sealed a fair few major signings this summer, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, youngster Ashley Phillips, defender Micky van de Ven, playmaker James Maddison, winger Manor Solomon and striker Alejo Veliz joining the club.

The new Premier League season is looming, and after Spurs' last pre-season friendly against Barcelona tonight, attention now turns to Brentford away on Sunday.

The north Londoners will have a new-look side from last term as Ange Postecoglou seeks to implement his philosophy and hand-pick players suited to his system.

Defensively, Tottenham were very poor last season, having conceded 63 league goals – which is more than any other side above 15th in the top-flight managed.

Those numbers will prove alarming for Postecoglou, who has a big task on his hands following in the footsteps of serial winner Antonio Conte.

The Australian also admitted to media recently that he wants to see more than one defensive addition this summer and has urged his side to make another signing at the back after completing a deal for van de Ven.

"It's not done yet," said Postecoglou.

"We need bolstering in that central defensive area. We need defenders who can work in an aggressive formation, defend well & behind them. We'll be looking to bring in a couple in that area in the coming days."

After this declaration of intent from Spurs' boss, reporter Pete O'Rourke has shared an update in a column for Football Insider.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

The journalist, sharing news on Tottenham's transfer plans for the remainder of this window, relays Spurs are "set to move for another centre-back signing" after both van de Ven and Phillips.

Tapsoba, who has been repeatedly linked throughout the transfer window, is at the centre of their interest with the club, and by extension Levy, identifying him as their "top target" before September 1.

The Burkina Faso international is valued at around £45m by Leverkusen, a figure proving problematic behind-the-scenes, and that is apparently holding up advanced talks.

How good is Edmond Tapsoba?

Tapsoba was an untouchable member of Xabi Alonso's starting eleven over 2022/2023, playing more league minutes than any other Leverkusen outfielder in the Bundesliga (WhoScored).

The 24-year-old ranked among their best for clearances made per 90 also, backing how truly solid of a presence he can be at the back (WhoScored).

edmond-tapsoba

Guardian journalist Ben McAleer, writing a piece for the outlet, has revered Tapsoba for his distribution and believes he would be a sure-fire fit for Postecoglou's system.

McAleer said:

"Postecoglou wants his centre-backs to play the ball out from defence, so Tapsoba would be a fine addition to the squad. He ranked fifth for passes per game (76.3) in the Europa League last season, and returned a solid pass success rate of 87.2%. What’s more, Tapsoba ranked second for forward passes (879) in the Bundesliga last season, looking to set his side on the front foot where possible."

Wellington sign Samit Patel for Super Smash T20

The allrounder, who was in remarkable form for Nottinghamshire in the county season, will join the team after completing his stint in the BPL

ESPNcricinfo staff23-Nov-2017Wellington have added England allrounder Samit Patel to their ranks in their bid for a second successive Super Smash title this season.Patel was in remarkable form for Nottinghamshire in the 2017 domestic season, helping the side win both the white-ball tournaments – the Royal London Cup and the Natwest t20 Blast – and secure a promotion in the County Championship. He was Nottinghamshire’s leading run-scorer in the Championship with 906 at 53.29 and also claimed 19 wickets. He also topped the county’s run chart in the Royal London Cup – and was fourth overall – with 539 at 67.37, before adding 405 runs and 16 wickets in the T20 Blast. His performances earned him the Player-of-the-Year title at the Professional Cricketers’ Awards in October.Patel will join Wellington at the end of his stint with the Rajshahi Kings in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. While the Super Smash gets underway on December 13, Wellington are scheduled to play their first match on December 15, against Northern Districts.”Our aim is simple: we’re looking to play entertaining, positive cricket. As we saw last year, that recipe leads to success when it’s well-executed,” Wellington coach Bruce Edgar, said. “For the upcoming campaign, we identified a need to complement our squad with a quality all-rounder. With a career featuring more than 200 T20 matches, including 18 internationals, and impressive strike rates with both bat and ball, we’re excited to have Samit joining the team to fill that role.”

Big Kieran Tierney U-turn expected now at Arsenal

Kieran Tierney’s future at Arsenal has gone back and forth over the last few weeks as the transfer window draws to a close. Journalist Paul Brown has given some positive news for Arsenal fans about the Scotsman’s future to GIVEMESPORT.

Will Tierney still be a Gunner next month?

Arsenal got the brand new Premier League season off to a strong start on Saturday lunchtime.

Goals from a double act of academy graduates in the form of Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka doing enough to secure the three points against Nottingham Forest. Taiwo Awoniyi may have pulled one back late on for Steve Cooper’s side but it ended up being nothing less than a consolation, and now a trip to Selhurst Park awaits the Gunners.

With every new fixture approaching, it remains to be seen if fullback Kieran Tierney will feature in the matchday squad.

If he were to be absent against Crystal Palace then that would surely point towards his regularly discussed departure. At the fore of the interest for the 26-year-old born on the Isle of Man are Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United and fellow Champions League outfit Real Sociedad.

The Spanish side have encountered an issue in their pursuit of the Scotsman, this being the length of the deal. Whilst Mikel Arteta and co were reported to be pushing for a permanent sale, La Real were keen to instead bring Tierney on a loan move.

Newcastle meanwhile are looking to keep spending their newfound money, having brought in Tino Livramento, Harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali from Southampton, Leicester City and AC Milan this window all for sizable fees.

After all of this though, Tierney could stay put in North London, as mentioned by Paul Brown below.

What has Paul Brown had to say?

Journalist Paul Brown has given a positive update on the future of Kieran Tierney at the Emirates to GIVEMESPORT.

"I still think there's a really good player in there. He can also play in multiple positions, remember. He can play full-back, wing-back, he's played as a third centre-back at times.

If Arteta is genuinely going to be changing up systems and formations game by game, I think that gives Tierney a big opportunity to get in and stake a claim.

"So it wouldn't surprise me if he's back in the team before long."

What else is going on at the Emirates?

Kieran Tierney isn't the only Gunners’ defender making headlines at the moment as new arrival Jurrien Timber has suffered a devastating injury. The Dutchman was substituted in the win over Forest and it could be worse than originally thought, with murmurs of yet another ACL injury in the sport.

This is another development that could see Arsenal retain the services of Tierney given that both he and fellow left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko do have some experience playing in a more central role.

The question of whether Arteta will bring in a Timber replacement is hanging in the air but at the other end of the field, a huge Barcelona prospect is seemingly on the Spaniard’s radar.

Ansu Fati has struggled for game time at the Nou Camp even with Ousmane Dembele moving on to Paris Saint-Germain and as well as that, the Blaugrana’s recent financial difficulties are there for all to see.

The 20-year-old is reportedly available and what a signal of intent that would be from Arsenal as they look to battle it out with Manchester City for the Premier League title once again.

Garton called up as cover for England warm-up

George Garton, the Sussex left-arm fast bowler, is to link up with the England squad after scans revealed that Jake Ball has suffered a ligament strain in his right ankle

Harris: Australia’s pace attack has a slight edge

England have called George Garton into their Ashes squad as injuries continued to bite deep into their resources.Garton, a 20-year-old with only nine first-class games behind him, will join up with the squad ahead of next week’s warm-up game inTownsville. Left-arm and fast, Garton had impressed the team management with his pace in net sessions over recent months, but hiselevation to the Test squad is as much a reflection of England’s dire injury situation as his potential.Garton joins the tour party as cover for Jake Ball. Ball’s right ankle buckled under him in delivery stride in Adelaide a couple of days agoand he has now been diagnosed with a ligament strain. The injury is not thought likely to be tour-ending, but it does render him a doubtfor the final warm-up game in Townsville and the first Test in Brisbane, which starts on November 23.With England keen not to over-bowl any of their main seamers ahead of that first Test, Garton will add depth to the squad in Townsville. Heis expected to join the Lions tour – which arrives in Australia next week – once Ball recovers. While Garton’s career record is modest – he has taken just 23 first-class wickets with a best of 3 for 20 and an average of 36.47 – his slingy pace renders him a player of huge potential. He will not need much time to acclimatise, having spent October in Melbourne with his Australian partner Liz, who he met a year ago when she was travelling around Europe and has since kept up a long-term relationship. Sussex’s former Australian all-rounder Tony Dodemaide also gave him a chance to bowl in the nets at the MCG against Victoria’s back-up players. He then returned briefly to England to team up with England Lions preparations at the national performance centre in Loughborough before preparing to make the 11,000-mile journey once more.”It was a great experience to get on Australian wickets for the first time and let the Aussies have it a bit,” he said in Loughborough. “I managed to get it down there and let them sniff a few. There’s no better feeling than hurling it down there as quick as you can and seeing the poles go everywhere, or making the batsmen feel uncomfortable.”The news sustains an unsettled start to England’s tour. Losing Ben Stokes and Toby Roland-Jones before departing the UK, they then saw Steven Finn fly home after he sustained a knee injury while batting in the nets in Perth, while Moeen Ali, their senior spinner, has yet to play on tour after suffering a side strain. Tom Curran joined up with the squad on Friday as cover for Finn.Mark Wood (ankle) and Tom Helm (hamstring), who are also on the Lions tour, were not considered fit for selection by England. Jamie Porter, the top wicket-taker in Division One in 2017, has also been diagnosed with a stress fracture recently.Liam Plunkett, who is currently in action in the BPL, was also considered. But bearing in mind the anticipated short stay Garton will have with the England squad – he is expected to be with them for about a week – the England management took the decision to allow Plunkett to remain in Bangladesh. He could still be called-up if another bowler sustains an injury.

Hugely worrying Kudus transfer claim emerges involving West Ham

West Ham United are keen on bringing in one of Europe's hottest talents; however, journalist Paul Brown would be 'surprised' if David Moyes could convince him to move to the London Stadium.

What's the latest news on the West Ham United transfer front?

The Irons have finally got their act together in the transfer market, confirming the signings of Edson Alvarez from Ajax and James Ward-Prowse from Southampton to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

Nevertheless, the proposed deal that looked set to take Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to the London Stadium has now collapsed after West Ham grew tired of waiting for the England international, as per The Guardian.

Maguire is believed to want a £7 million pay-off from Manchester United to leave the club, which is believed to have been a sticking point in negotiating an exit. Despite a £30 million fee being agreed between West Ham and the Red Devils alongside personal terms being shook on, the 30-year-old will now stay in the North West for the time being.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou has emerged as an alternative target to strengthen the Hammers' backline and a £30 million swoop is being lined up to take him to east London. At the same time, a loan deal with an option-to-buy may also be a viable route to land the Ivory Coast international, according to The Sun.

According to talkSPORT, West Ham are also keen on Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus, who has previously attracted heavy interest from Brighton & Hove Albion this window.

As per The Independent, Chelsea and Arsenal have also courted the Ghana international in the last few weeks and it is said that Ajax could be willing to let Kudus leave for a fee in the region of £40 million.

Kudus played the full 90 minutes for Ajax in their Eredivisie opener against Heracles Almelo last weekend, getting himself on the scoresheet in a 4-1 victory, as per Transfermarkt.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Brown has admitted that he would be shocked if West Ham were able to land Kudus this summer.

Brown stated: "I think Kudus is potentially the next big thing, but there are other clubs in for him and I don't think West Ham are high on his list of priorities.

"I would be surprised if that one comes off. I think there are other people they're looking at more seriously than Kudus and he will probably go somewhere else."

Who else could West Ham United look to bring in this summer?

According to Telegraph Sport, West Ham may turn their attention towards Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson to strengthen their offensive options if Lucas Paqueta is to leave the London Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on adding the Wales international as a potential replacement for Harry Kane and it is believed that he could cost around £45 million.

Brennan Johnson and Gareth Bale

Free agent and former West Ham loanee Jesse Lingard is training with West Ham and the possibility of the 30-year-old earning a 'short-term' contract at the London Stadium hasn't been ruled out, according to Sky Sports News.

Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer is a loan target for the Hammers and could be brought in to strengthen the flanks, as per BBC Sport.

Guptill returns for first two Pakistan ODIs

George Worker, who struck two half-centuries in three ODIs against West Indies, has been left out of the 13-man squad

ESPNcricinfo staff01-Jan-2018Martin Guptill returns from injury while the spin duo of Mitchell Santner and Todd Astle were retained in New Zealand’s 13-man squad for the first two ODIs against Pakistan.Guptill missed New Zealand’s 3-0 rout of West Indies last month with a hamstring injury. However, he has regained fitness and is currently part of the national team for the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. Guptill’s inclusion means George Worker, who made two half-centuries in his last three ODIs as an opener, has been left out.”It’s tough on George missing out, but he’ll continue to push for selection and will get further opportunities down the road,” said Gavin Larsen, the national selector. “Martin is a proven world-class player, so we’re naturally thrilled to have him back in the mix. He and Colin (Munro) have been strong for us at the top of the order.”New Zealand will also be without Colin de Grandhomme, the allrounder, who missed the West Indies series and returned to Harare after his father’s death. He has since returned to New Zealand and will play for Auckland and is likely to return for the last three ODIs.Meanwhile, contributions with both bat and ball, Larsen reasoned, influenced the selectors in picking two spinners. Astle, who made his ODI debut against West Indies, picked up four wickets in three matches along with a career-best 49 from No. 7 in a match-turning partnership. “Todd made the most of his opportunity against the West Indies and made a strong contribution with both bat and ball,” said Larsen.”Mitchell has been one of our most consistent white-ball bowlers for a long time now, as can be seen by him being ranked in the top 10 ODI bowlers in the world. Conditions will dictate whether they play in the same eleven, but it’s certainly not out of the question.”The five-match series that starts in Wellington on January 6 will be followed by three T20Is. New Zealand squad: Kane Williamson (capt), Todd Astle, Doug Bracewell, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptil, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.

Tottenham Considering Move For "Skillful" 24 y/o Star

Tottenham Hotspur are now considering a move for Al-Ittihad winger Jota, who could potentially be brought in as an alternative to one of their other targets, according to a report.

Are Tottenham signing a winger?

Tottenham are firmly in the hunt for a new winger, as we enter the final week of the summer transfer window, and they could stand a good chance of winning the race for Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson, who has now told friends he is keen on the move.

However, the Wales international is not Spurs' only target in wide areas, as it has now been reported they have submitted a bid worth €45m (£38.6m) for FC Porto's Pepe, which was knocked back, with the Portuguese side holding out for a fee of €75m (£64.3m).

Given that the Lilywhites are some way off matching Porto's valuation of the 26-year-old, they may choose to pursue the cheaper option of their two targets, and 90min report they are now leading the race for Johnson, who is valued at £50m by Forest.

Forest are aware that increase in the 22-year-old is increasing, and a £50m move would be a huge boost to their Financial Fair Play calculations, although they are still reluctant to sell him.

Working under Ange Postecoglou is the most appealing option to the Welshman at this stage, but the manager could choose to pursue a player he already knows very well, with Jota, who he worked with at Celtic, now emerging as an option.

Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad shelled out a club-record fee to sign the winger this summer, but they have already put him up for sale, and Tottenham have now been alerted to his availability.

The 24-year-old played under Postecoglou last season, helping Celtic win the Scottish Premiership title with ease, and he could now be set to reunite with the Australian, should Spurs be able to agree on a suitable fee.

Not only are the Lilywhites keen on a new winger, but 90min also make it clear they are keen on bolstering the spine of the team with another central midfielder and centre-back.

How good is Jota?

It is clear to see why Al-Ittihad were willing to pay £25m for the Portuguese attacker, as he was an extremely influential player for Celtic last season, weighing in with 11 goals and 10 assists in 29 Scottish Premiership appearances.

Former Celtic winger Jota.

Guardian columnist Dominik Diamond named the 5 foot 9 forward among the Hoops' best players, when discussing who should be named Player of the Year, describing him as "ludicrously skillful", and Portugal boss Roberto Martinez believes he's getting better and better, saying:

"What I would say is that his evolution has been very impressive. I would say that the last four months especially he is growing into a very mature role at his club. He's always involved in the big moments, and that's important."

Having already worked under Postecoglou, praising the Spurs boss for never losing belief in his philosophy during his time at Celtic Park, Jota could be a fantastic signing for Tottenham, and his availability means it may well be a relatively easy move to facilitate.
