Leeds: Donnohue drops Bamford injury update

Leeds United have been dealt a potential blow ahead of their Premier League meeting with Chelsea this Sunday.

What’s the latest?

In a recent report for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Joe Donnohue revealed that, despite Patrick Bamford having done the right thing when informing the bench he wished to be substituted due to a knock sustained in the first half of the Whites’ 2-2 draw with Southampton last weekend, the visit of Chelsea this weekend may come too soon for the centre-forward’s return to action.

Speaking about the 28-year-old’s current condition, Jesse Marsch said: “What I’m most pleased with is that he was honest with us and made the decision that it just wasn’t right. It’s just the reality and again, listen, we’ve even tried in the week to modify his [Bamford’s] loading and he’s been feeling great.

“But it’s obvious that when you’re out for so long that there’s going to be little things that pop up and so again maybe we could have made the decision not to play him [against Southampton] but he felt good. We have to manage him appropriately.”

Big blow for Marsch

With Victor Orta having yet to add a new centre-forward to Marsch’s attacking arsenal in the summer transfer window, coupled with 20-year-old Joe Gelhardt also struggling for fitness so far this season, the news that the Chelsea fixture could come too soon for Bamford to make a return to first-team football is sure to have come as a gutting blow for the American manager.

Indeed, although support striker Rodrigo has started the 2022/23 campaign in fine goalscoring form – bagging three goals over his two Premier League appearances thus far – it is nevertheless clear to see that the Whites are still heavily reliant on the goals of the England international.

This is evidenced by the club’s return of goals during the striker’s absence due to a series of injuries last season, with the Whites managing to hit the back of the net just 42 times in the Premier League last time out – with Bamford scoring two over his nine top-flight fixtures – while, in the campaign prior, Leeds scored a much more impressive 62 goals in the league – with the 28-year-old bagging 17 over his 38 Premier League outings.

As such, should the former Chelsea forward indeed be ruled out against his former club this weekend, it would not appear to bode well for the Whites’ chances of outscoring their seventh-placed opponents – something that is sure to come as a big blow to Marsch.

Aston Villa could sign Otavio

Aston Villa have picked up three points from their first three Premier League games of the season and there is no doubt Steven Gerrard will want to improve upon their current form, with Pete O’Rourke revealing exactly what the club needs in the final week of the transfer window.

What’s the latest?

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed the “top player” that Aston Villa should sign to improve their team over the season ahead.

Speaking to Football FanCast, O’Rourke claimed:

“He’s a top player Otavio, he was linked with Liverpool earlier in the window quite strongly as well as Arsenal so he’s got great pedigree, he’s played Champions League, he can score goals and create goals, Villa do need somebody who can do that because they don’t score enough goals.

“They’re too dependent on Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings to get them the goals, so bringing in someone like Otavio could maybe help ease the burden on them as well.”

Gerrard could form a deadly trio

After losing two of their first three Premier League games so far there are certainly many areas of concern for the Villa boss, but the signing of Otavio could certainly improve the quality and goal-scoring opportunities in the forward line.

Villa have had 40 shots on goal, 11 on target but have only managed to convert three, whilst already conceding six, so there is no doubt there is an opportunity there to find a player who can not only offer creativity but better finishing too.

Otavio has scored 24 goals and delivered an impressive 62 assists over 239 appearances for Porto with a goal contribution every 197 minutes played, proving that he could be a very valuable asset in the Villa team and certainly improve their current attacking threat.

When you compare the Portuguese talent, who comes with a £38m price tag, to Emi Buendia, Jacob Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho and Leon Bailey over last season, Otavio comes out on top in many areas of creative play.

Otavio contributed more assists (9) in fact he delivered more than Ramsey, Bailey and Coutinho combined (6), completed more crosses (74) and had more shots in total (44) than everyone other than Coutinho (66), as per FBref.

The versatile talent can effectively play in a number of attacking positions including right midfield, attacking midfield, right or left wing and has even been dubbed the “perfect fit” for Aston Villa by PGR Analytics to suit their narrow style of play in the attacking third.

As a result, Gerrard could form a deadly attacking trio with Otavio delivering the creativity and high-quality goal-scoring opportunities to both Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins if the club can secure a deal before Deadline Day next Thursday.

Wolves are taking a big risk at centre-back

Wolves had a busy deadline day as Boubacar Traore arrived at Molineux and Leander Dendoncker departed for Aston Villa but Bruno Lage took a big risk by not signing a new centre-back.

Lage’s switch to a back four this season has seen him deploy Max Kilman and Nathan Collins as the main two centre-back options in his side, as club captain Conor Coady was loaned to Everton.

This left the Old Gold without an experienced option at the back, as none of the centre-backs in Lage’s squad are over the age of 25, while Toti and Yerson Mosquera have very little Premier League experience.

It was no surprise therefore to see Wolves heavily linked with a move for the vastly-experienced Craig Dawson on deadline day but that deal fell through after West Ham were beaten to the signing of Jan Bednarek by Aston Villa.

Liam Keen, the Express and Star journalist, shared an update on Wolves’ centre-back situation on Twitter.

He said: “After the Craig Dawson deal collapsed, Wolves are now set to not sign a centre-back and Yerson Mosquera’s loan to France is set to be cancelled. Club happy with their options.”

Considering Wolves’ less than impressive start to the new Premier League season, which has seen them continue their drab form from the end of the last campaign, it feels like a big risk for Lage to not have an experienced defender in his squad.

If either Collins or Kilman were to be injured, he would have to rely on Toti (four Premier League appearances) or Mosquera (no Premier League appearances), which could be potentially disastrous, especially if Wolves find themselves scrapping towards the bottom of the league.

Loaning Coady to Everton already felt like a big risk considering his status both on and off the pitch at Molineux and a lack of experience at the back could really come back to haunt Wolves this season after they failed to act decisively on deadline day.

Nottingham Forest ‘close’ to Willy Boly deal

Nottingham Forest are ‘really close’ to signing Wolves defender Willy Boly and personal terms are even finalised, according to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The lowdown: Major overhaul

Following promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs, Forest have added no fewer than 18 first-team players to Steve Cooper’s squad already this summer.

In total, the City Ground hierarchy have already shelled out £141.35million on the ranks in an attempt to ensure the Reds remain in the top flight and there appears to be more to come yet.

With free agent defender Serge Aurier seemingly on the brink of a switch to Forest, now one well-informed onlooker has confirmed that a move for the ex-Tottenham ace’s compatriot Boly could follow soon after…

The latest: ‘Really close’

Speaking to Give Me Sport, reputable journalist Romano has claimed that the 13-cap Ivory Coast international is also heading towards an arrival in the Midlands.

He said: “They’re waiting to complete the deal for Boly to Nottingham Forest. That is really close.

“They’re discussing it today because the player already agreed personal terms with Nottingham Forest, so now they’re discussing the fee.”

The verdict: Shrewd buy

Holding an estimated market value of £5.4million (Transfermarkt), signing Boly for anything close to a reported £2.25million fee would have to be regarded as a smart piece of business from Dane Murphy and Evangelos Marinakis.

Albeit the towering centre-back has had a waning impact in recent time, primarily due to injury woes, the 31-year-old still has all the attributes required to be a major asset in Cooper’s side and the quest for survival.

Standing at an imposing 6 foot 5, Boly – who was lauded for his ‘outstanding’ assets by Joleon Lescott in 2020 – also boasts 312 outings worth of top-level experience that could prove to be invaluable as the season wears on.

Everton: Joyce confirms Patterson injury

Everton have not had an easy ride with injuries over the last 12 months which has translated in their performances in the Premier League, and now Frank Lampard has been dealt another setback ahead of the Southampton clash.

What’s the latest?

According to The Times’ Northern football correspondent Paul Joyce, Nathan Patterson could be out for up to six weeks after sustaining an injury whilst on international duty with Scotland.

As per the report written by Joyce, the Toffees defender will see a specialist to further determine the seriousness of his injury and confirm an accurate timeframe of absence after being given an initial diagnosis.

Lampard will be gutted

There is no doubt that Lampard will be absolutely gutted to lose such a key player to his ever-improving Everton team over the first seven games of the season. Indeed, losing Patterson for over a month could contribute to a loss of momentum after going unbeaten in their last five outings.

The talented right-back, who Danny Murphy dubbed “terrific”, has stepped into and excelled in the role that had been held by club captain Seamus Coleman for over a decade, fitting seamlessly into the manager’s philosophy and thriving as a guaranteed starter at Goodison Park.

Over seven appearances so far, Patterson has been superb from an attacking point of view and in possession of the ball.

He has delivered one assist, tallied up a 96% pass accuracy in his own half, completed 100% of his long balls, won the majority of his duels combined (67%) and successfully completed the majority of his dribbles too (67%), proving that he is becoming a consistent and reliable mainstay in the team.

As a result of his breakthrough with the Merseysiders, the 20-year-old Scotsman has been the recipient of high praise with Lampard hailing Patterson when assessing the right-back’s performances in the team earlier this month:

“He has shown character. People say he’s a really good offensive full back, but his defensive game has been excellent.

“It is hard on the full backs when we switched to a back four, because there are a lot more questions asked. But he has done great, and he’s a young player so he’s only going to get better.”

With that being said, the Everton boss will be hoping that the follow-up assessment of Patterson’s injury comes back positive and the full-back will be able to return to action sooner than initially expected.

Manchester United want Goncalo Ramos

Manchester United possess an ‘interest’ in Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The lowdown

The 21-year-old has come through the youth ranks at Benfica, having initially joined the Lisbon club back in 2013.

Ramos, whose contract runs until June 2026 after an extension last October, has started all but one of Benfica’s league and European matches this season following Darwin Nunez’s move to Liverpool.

The Uruguayan is among a number of players to leave the Portuguese top flight for the Premier League in recent years, alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias, Luis Diaz and Fabio Vieira.

The latest

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones said that Ramos could be the latest Primeira Liga import at an elite English club. He also set out United’s criteria, explaining that they might not go for the biggest name but will still be wary of taking risks.

Jones said in relation to recent reported links between Ramos and the Red Devils: “He is a player of interest, and we know that Liga Nos is proving itself as a great breeding ground for new Premier League talent.

“United will want someone who is hungry to make a name for themselves but who also is not a huge gamble or a huge price-tag. Ramos is definitely interesting.”

The verdict

Ramos has started the season in fantastic goalscoring form, netting eight times in his first 12 matches. He has also laid on six assists, so he’s averaging a direct goal involvement every 59 minutes.

He had already established himself as an elite prospect by winning the Golden Boot in both the UEFA Youth League and Under-19 European Championship, along with Benfica’s 2021 ‘Revelation of the Year’ Award.

He’s doing it at first-team level now, and if he can keep this up over a full season, a big-money move may be in the offing next summer.

There may still be some maturing to do, based on a red card that Ramos received for diving in a game against Vizela earlier this month, but journalist Zach Lowy says that the sale of Nunez has allowed him ‘to emerge as the club’s attacking talisman’ and prove that he’s a ‘fantastic young striker’.

Called up to the senior Portugal side for the first time this month, he has been dubbed a ‘pure demon’ by The Athletic’s Jack Collins.

Following on from Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernandes in previous years, Ramos may well be another shrewd Portuguese coup by United if they can lure him to Old Trafford.

There are two main ways to wager on football: parlays and flat bets. When you wager on numerous outcomes, such as in a parlay or flat bet, your total earnings will be smaller because the odds are multiplied by the number of options you have. It implies that in comparison to parlay betting, your actual payout will be lesser. One thing to keep in mind when betting on football is that the sportsbook's rules have an impact on the odds for the games you select. Odds significantly impact the possible profitability and number of bets placed when it comes to football betting.

It is simple to overindulge while betting on football due to the numerous benefits of gambling. For instance, betting on football is the ideal sport for handicap betting. The best approach to make some money without taking on too much risk is through handicap betting, often known as low-risk or low-payout betting. With handicap betting, you have a slim chance of winning compared to standard betting, when the player takes a significant risk. The risk is low, though, provided you use odds when making decisions.

Betting on football is fairly common everywhere in the world. In actuality, you may make a sizable profit from football betting. Most sportsbooks provide free online betting tips and assistance, making it even simpler for bettors to select their betting strategy. If you've never gambled on football before, all you need to do is decide the kind of wager you want to make: straight up, against the spread, money line, or total points. You can place your bets as long as the bookmaker has a "teaser" pricing for a point spread. Additionally, the bookmakers will give you all the pertinent details about the team, players, and game circumstances for which you are placing a wager.

How to Choose the Best Football Betting Strategy? Learn About Football

You should have at least a rudimentary understanding of the game before even considering placing a wager on football. Betting without the necessary information is comparable to going into a computer store and asking for the greatest machine they have. An excellent place to start is by learning about the sport via websites, periodicals, and a friend who enjoys it.

Statistics

Real victors never place their faith in their emotions or hopes. They instead monitor the football teams and their players' performances using football statistics. The football clubs that have been successful in recent years have incorporated statistics into their game plans.

Understand the Various Types of Betting

What different kinds of football wagers can you place? There are several of them, some of which the wise bettor will find to be of great worth and others that will not significantly detract from the top prizes. Exact score wagers are frequently the public favorite, but we encourage you to bet against them. Remember to control your risks and exercise caution when investing your money.

What Are Some of the Best Winning Football Betting Strategies in 2022? Follow expert predictions

How to bet on football and always win? Football wagers can be won or lost depending on knowledge and expertise. Those that outperform the bookmakers employ a tried-and-true technique. The foundation of matched betting is taking advantage of bonuses and promotions offered by the best bookmakers for football.

Football is a fantastic sport for matched bets because there are so many different betting options. Large football leagues like the Premier League and the Champions League are a prime example of this. When it comes to matched betting, you'll be in good hands if you stay with the most watched football matches. You may stop waiting for your team to score another goal because you already know the result and the amount of money you'll win. Although not for everyone, this football betting technique has a high potential for financial success. There is a lot of potential because, in 2022, most online bookies will give bonuses to new and current customers.

Keep track of your progress

Keeping a record is the next football betting tactic we'll look at. If you want to start winning more frequently when betting, it's important to keep a detailed record of your bets as well as other items.

What, then, should you record specifically? Here are a few things to think about:

The wagers you place and win The wagering amount you use The total gain or loss from all wagers The betting site you utilize for each wager

By employing this technique, you can see more clearly whether your current football betting strategy is profitable.

Tips and Tricks for Football Betting Pick bookmakers that provide you with accurately calculated odds

You may have a lesser chance of really winning anything important if you choose bookies at random. Although there are many betting websites, the important question is how many are genuinely reliable. To properly comprehend the facts, it's essential to compare the winning football odds to the odds offered by other bookmakers. Countless websites merely copy market patterns without understanding the competitions, teams, or players. These websites typically provide terrible odds with slim chances of winning. There are also reliable websites with qualified professionals who cover every sport they provide.

A large Number of Choices

A novice will probably want to look into every possibility to determine their area of expertise. Selecting websites with a large selection of games and betting options is a wonderful way to start betting. Choose a sportsbook website that provides a range of gambling possibilities, including spread, moneyline, parlays, outright, match-winner, handicaps, etc. The best opportunities for a beginner can be the best bookmakers that provide options for the most and least popular sports.

Bottom Line

Being one of the most extensively played sports among gamblers all over the world, the domain of football betting is a huge one. Stepping into it as a novice can be intimidating, but you can go a long way with the proper first steps!

Arsenal in contract talks with Martinelli

Arsenal are in ‘direct negotiations’ with star attacker Gabriel Martinelli over a new contract, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Martinelli’s contract

Having signed his last deal with the north London outfit in 2020, the Brazil international’s deal with the Gunners is set to initially expire in the summer of 2024, but the club do have the option to extend this by a further year.

The 21-year-old has been imperative in Mikel Arteta’s success this season, with his four goals and two assists in nine games helping the side to the top of the Premier League table.

Since arriving at the emirates in 2019, Martinelli has amassed 95 appearances in a Red and white shirt.

The Latest: Romano’s news

Romano has now shared a fresh update on Martinelli’s contract situation at Arsenal, revealing a positive step in negotiations.

Taking to Twitter, the reliable journalist said:

“Arsenal are already in direct negotiations to extend Gabriel Martinelli’s contract, talks have been ongoing for weeks. ‘I want to stay’, Gabriel said.”

The Verdict: Get it signed…

When looking at the 21-year-old’s underlying stats, it is easy to see why the Gunners are desperate to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, the winger ranks in the 95th percentile for touches in the attacking penalty area, in the 91st percentile for blocks and in the 84th percentile for aerials won, combining an elite work ethic with attacking threat.

Having earned statistical comparisons to Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman, Martinelli certainly has the talent to help push Arsenal in their quest of attaining a Premier League title, be it this season or in the future.

Hailed as a ‘phenomenal’ player by Arteta himself, the Gunners must do all they can to keep the Brazilian at the club.

Rangers missed a trick with Martin Boyle

Glasgow Rangers bounced back from their humiliation in Europe last week as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men won 2-1 in the Premiership at the weekend.

The Ibrox side were smashed 7-1 in Europe by Liverpool and goals from Malik Tillman and John Lundstram were enough to pick up three points in the Scottish top-flight vs Motherwell.

Despite the win, the manager may not have been pleased with the performances of some of the players on the pitch – including his two wingers; Rabbi Matondo and Ryan Kent.

The pair struggled out wide as they created one chance between them and lost 21 of their 30 duels combined, which shows that they were poor in and out of possession.

Since joining the club in the summer, Matondo has zero goals and three assists in 14 appearances in all competitions as he has been unable to regularly deliver quality in the final third for the Gers.

The forward’s lack of end product so far this season may leave Ross Wilson wondering whether he made the right decision by snapping him up from Schalke, particularly when there could have been a chance of signing experienced winger Martin Boyle.

Former Gers defender Craig Moore claimed that the club would be keeping tabs on the forward’s situation in the summer, saying: “Celtic, no, Rangers, definitely could be a possibility. I think Rangers are in a situation where they might be looking at a right winger in terms of strengthening the squad.

“Hagi is still injured, I know Wright and Sakala have played there but there are not natural winger types. Someone like Martin Boyle, who has proven himself, that for me would be very interesting and I’m sure Rangers will be monitoring the situation.”

Rangers opted against a swoop for the attacker and he ended up re-joining Hibernian, eight months after leaving them to sign for Al-Faisaly for £3m back in January.

Since making the move back to Scotland, Boyle has scored four goals and provided one assist, whilst creating 2.5 chances per game, in eight Premiership starts.

In the first half of last season, he produced seven goals and three assists, whilst delivering 1.6 key passes per outing in 20 starts for Hibs. That proves that he has the quality to make a big impact in the Scottish top flight.

He is a proven goalscorer and creator at this level and the numbers suggest that he would have been a better option than Matondo, who has struggled to find his best form in front of goal thus far.

Therefore, Wilson missed a trick by not signing the attacker – who has scored 113 club career goals – in the summer and may regret his decision as the Australia international continues to impress in the Premiership.

Rangers must bench Tavernier

Glasgow Rangers return to Scottish Premiership action this afternoon, welcoming Livingston to Ibrox for what is a must-win tie.

The Light Blues secured a drab 1-0 victory over Dundee in the League Cup on Wednesday evening, however, the performance was lethargic and generally uninspiring as the supporters continue to put pressure on Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his bewildering team selection at times.

The Dutchman will surely ring changes ahead of today’s match, with James Tavernier a player that should be given a rest due to claims he isn’t fit, despite Van Bronckhorst insisting that “he is fine” and a big decision needs to be made.

On the chalkboard

Regardless if the captain is fit or not, he has been a peripheral figure over the previous few weeks, especially in the Champions League. The right-back has an average rating of just 6.5/10 via Sofascore in the competition and was part of the side that shipped seven goals against Liverpool.

His last Premiership match against Motherwell saw the Englishman lose possession a whopping 30 times during the encounter, working out at once every three minutes and many supporters expected Van Bronckhorst to rest him against Dundee.

This didn’t happen and his performance didn’t exactly do much for the club, as they struggled to break down a resolute Dundee side. Youngster Adam Devine must come in against Livingston and be trusted from the start.

The £24k-per-week Light Blues captain has been a wonderful player for the club over the previous few seasons, even being described as a “physical machine” by The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.

With the player turning 31 in nine days, injuries and niggles might become more commonplace and blooding youngsters like Devine to deputise makes sense.

The Dutchman must look through loyalty and play the side that is fit and hungry to achieve success, and some of the Rangers players at the moment look a little bit lost.

Whatever happens, securing three points against Livingston is what matters and the Ibrox side will hopefully put on a more positive performance than what was on show in midweek.
