Josko Gvardiol Latest: Man United Make Offer

Manchester United have reportedly made an offer to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

What’s the latest Man United transfer news?

Erik ten Hag has already added to his squad this summer ahead of his second season in charge at Old Trafford. Mason Mount was the first through the door from Chelsea, and the midfielder has been joined by Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana. Deals for the two have cost Old Trafford officials in the region of £100m, but it looks as if the club will continue to splash the cash.

A move for Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund is now advancing, with Fabrizio Romano saying on Saturday that an agreement worth €70m had been reached.

“Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United, here we go! Agreement reached right now with Atalanta.

“Package will be around €70m with add ons, clubs preparing documents in the next 24 hours. Hojlund agreed 5 year deal ten days ago as he only wanted Manchester United.”

However, alongside Hojlund, a move for Gvardiol could also be on the cards, despite previous speculation that he was extremely close to signing for neighbours Manchester City.

According to one Spanish report in the last 48 hours, relayed by Paisley Gates, three more Premier League clubs are interested in signing Gvardiol alongside Man City.

It is believed that Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all submitted offers for the defender, who they see as a valuable asset. RB Leipzig want €100m (£86m) for Gvardiol, but it is claimed that City are still the favourites to sign the centre-back.

RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

How good is Josko Gvardiol?

Gvardiol has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past two years, with his Transfermarkt valuation rocketing from €16m to a career-high €75m.

Still only 21 years of age, there appears to be room to improve even further, and pundit Owen Hargreaves believes that Gvardiol will be "the best centre-back in the world one day” following a performance against Man City last season.

"He [Gvardiol], I think, is an absolute top one. I think he’ll be the best centre-back in the world one day. He’s learned a lot today, and probably wouldn’t mind playing in a team like this rather than against them."

Hailed as a “gladiator” by journalist Ryan Taylor during the World Cup in Qatar, Gvardiol has made 87 appearances for Leipzig after leaving Dinamo Zagreb in 2021 and is primarily a centre-back but can also turn out as a left-back, showing he would even offer versatility to Ten Hag’s backline.

You can see why United may well be in the market for a new defender as well, with speculation emerging over Harry Maguire’s future at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have already turned down an offer from West Ham for the centre-back, but if he does eventually move on, a replacement to rival the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane could be needed, especially with Champions League football back at Old Trafford.

Gvardiol would do just that, however, with three Premier League rivals to beat in the race for the defender, a transfer could prove tricky to complete.

Sky Sports: Celtic Still Eyeing £15k-p/w Player

Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are still following Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic but also have other targets in mind, according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph.

What’s the latest Celtic transfer news?

The Hoops have brought in a six new players at a total cost of £12m this summer, with Maik Nawrocki, Odin Thiago Holm, Hyun-jun Yang, Marco Tilio, Hyeok-kyu Kwon and Tomoki Iwata all making the move to Parkhead.

However, it doesn’t look as if the club are planning to stop there, with a deal for a new goalkeeper to rival Joe Hart seemingly on the to-do list. Livakovic was thought to be a player of interest at Celtic Park last month, but it looked as if he would sign for Turkish side Fenerbahce instead. As of now, the Croatia international remains a Dinamo Zagreb player, and it looks as if a move to Scotland could still yet materialise.

Talking on the CeltsAreHere podcast, relayed in a story on Thursday, Joseph said that the Hoops have still been monitoring Livakovic but are also eyeing other potential targets.

“Celtic have been closely monitoring Livakovic’s situation. A few days after I reported on it, Fenerbahce had made a bid and they were very close to doing that deal. That deal hasn’t been done yet, there has been a lot of delay to that and it could be on the brink of collapse.

“Other clubs are also interested, we reported that Villarreal, Saudi Arabian clubs and I believe another La Liga side are also in for him.

“Celtic have moved onto other targets. As far as I’m aware, they’re not any further on with these targets yet, and they’re still fully assessing the goalkeeping situation. I think that’s why we saw Siegrist and Scott Bain play the 90 minutes against Bilbao, and Joe Hart didn’t play any.”

Dominik Livakovic

Who is Dominik Livakovic?

Livakovic is 28 years of age and is the Dinamo Zagreb club captain. However, his current £15,000-a-week deal is set to expire in less than 12 months’ time.

In total, the shot-stopper has made 287 appearances for Dinamo Zagreb, keeping 134 clean sheets. Livakovic has experience of playing in both the Champions League and Europa League and is valued at €12m by Transfermarkt.

Frank McAvennie thinks Livakovic could be a solid signing at Celtic Park, recently describing the player as "different class" in the last World Cup.

“I think he will be a lot better coming to Celtic than going to Turkey. I would say we are a better club for anyone of that stature. He was different class in the World Cup. It would be a great thing for him and Joe Hart to have a fight.

“It would be wonderful for the football club, I do not think [Scott] Bain or [Benjamin] Siegrist can challenge Joe Hart.”

It looks as if a new ‘keeper could arrive to bolster Rodgers’ squad before the deadline, with a move for Livakovic not completely ruled out. There is plenty of interest in the player, though, so Celtic may need to make their move fairly quickly.

Reigning champions Southern Vipers are through to the final of this year’s competition after an unexpected end to the group stages of the Kia Super League.Vipers did their bit by ending Yorkshire Diamonds’ hopes of joining them at Finals Day when they won by 30 runs at Arundel.Meanwhile, Surrey Stars’ unexpected defeat to Loughborough Lightning meant Vipers overtook Surrey to finish top of the group. They will play the winners of Surrey’s clash with Western Storm at Finals Day at Hove next Friday.Vipers made 138 for 6 after they were put in on a slow pitch. Diamonds began their reply promisingly but from 31 for 0 in the third over they collapsed horribly, losing five wickets for just four runs in 18 balls. Katherine Brunt top scored with 42 but they were bowled out for 108 in the 19th over. For once Vipers’ batting fired without the prolific Suzie Bates. The New Zealander was brilliantly caught at long on for 12 in the fourth over by Sune Luus but her fellow overseas players made up for her rare failure.Opening partner Hayley Matthews scored 40 off 38 balls with three fours and two sixes, both struck cleanly down the ground, before Mignon du Preez went to her first half-century in the tournament from 35 just deliveries. The South African hit six fours as Vipers accelerated towards the end, scoring 37 in the final four overs.Katie Levick picked up two wickets in the last over to finish with 3 for 21 but a target of 139 on a slow pitch was always going to test Yorkshire, even though Linsey Smith’s absence, after she suffered an asthma attack before the start, left them a specialist bowler short. They began well with Sri Lankan Chamari Atapattu hitting two fours and two sixes in the first four overs. But when Lauren Winfield was smartly stumped by Carla Rudd off Arran Brindle the innings went into steep decline. Luus was run out two balls later then Bates claimed the key wicket of Atapattu (21), who was leg before swinging across the line. Sophie Devine fell in similar fashion and Yorkshire were 35 for 5 when Jenny Gunn was bowled round her legs by Tara Norris.Brunt hit eight fours to keep Diamonds in with a chance but when she was run out backing up too far by Bates’ deflection onto the stumps in the 17th over Yorkshire’s race was run.

Rangers Can Land Davies Upgrade By Signing 6 ft 3 Titan

Glasgow Rangers head coach Michael Beale has been able to add nine new players to his first-team squad throughout the summer transfer window so far.

Who have Rangers signed this summer?

The Light Blues have bolstered their squad in several areas of the pitch in an attempt to win silverware this season after a failure to secure any trophies during the 2022/23 campaign.

Leon Balogun, Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Kieran Dowell, Jose Cifuentes, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland, and Danilo have all arrived on permanent deals, whilst Abdallah Sima has joined on loan from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

There could be another addition in the defensive positions, though, if central defender Ben Davies ends up moving on before the end of the window.

His future at Ibrox is reportedly up in the air and the ex-Liverpool man was left out of the club's UEFA squad list, which meant that he had to watch on from the stands against Servette on Wednesday.

Who could replace Ben Davies at Rangers?

Beale could replace the former Preston North End enforcer, if he seals a transfer away from Ibrox, with a big upgrade by swooping for Leeds United battler Charlie Cresswell.

Rangers reportedly had an offer rejected for the England U21 international earlier this summer and they could go back in for him to take Davies' place.

The 6 foot 3 titan did sign a new deal with the Whites earlier this month but started the season on the bench against Cardiff and Leeds are set to sign Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in his position.

This could open up the door for Cresswell to depart over the coming weeks, whether that is permanently or on loan, and Rangers could swoop in to secure his services.

Rangers defender Ben Davies.

The 20-year-old colossus spent last season on loan at Millwall in the Championship and his performances suggest that he could be an upgrade on Davies for the Gers.

Cresswell, who was once dubbed “unbelievable” by Leeds presenter Joe Wainman, averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.13 across 28 appearances and caught the eye with 2.8 tackles and interceptions per game for his side. He was able to deliver consistently impressive displays in spite of his young age during his time with the Lions.

Out of Beale's centre-back option, only Connor Goldson (7.29) averaged a higher Sofascore rating than 7.13 in the Scottish Premiership last term and no player in that position managed more than 2.3 tackles and interceptions per match.

Davies played 27 top-flight games for the Light Blues and averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.94, whilst the 27-year-old warrior made 1.7 tackles and interceptions per clash.

Both players are dominant in the air as they won at least 61% of their aerial battles across the Championship and Premiership seasons respectively, which means that they are able to dominate opposition forwards when balls are launched into the box.

This suggests that Cresswell, who is also seven years younger than the current Rangers man, has the potential to offer more than the £27k-per-week stopper in terms of his general performance level and the volume of defensive interventions he is able to make each match.

Chelsea Could Sign £55m "Leader" To Avenge Stones Disaster

Chelsea have already spent ludicrous amounts this summer, but they could be set to unload yet another big fee in an effort to avenge a failure of the past…

Who are Chelsea signing this summer?

With Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo the latest to enter Stamford Bridge, it would be easy to assume that Mauricio Pochettino's midfield rebuild was complete.

However, given their free-spending philosophy thus far this window, it makes their next move simply impossible to predict.

There is every chance that they could even reignite an old rumour, with their reported interest in Everton's Amadou Onana from June fitting in with the transfer strategy employed thus far.

He is young, dynamic and progressive, and seemingly most importantly for the Blues, very expensive.

It is expected that the Toffees will command a fee of around £55m to sanction his exit, given he only joined last summer in a £33m deal.

How good is Amadou Onana?

In returning to Goodison Park for a young star, it is hard not to draw comparisons with their 2015 attempt to sign John Stones.

Read the latest Chelsea transfer news HERE…

The ball-playing centre-back had starred on Merseyside, with a skillset that was destined for things far greater than the struggles he was enduring with Everton.

Thus developed a huge transfer saga that lasted the entire summer of the aforementioned year, with Jose Mourinho desperate to bring the graceful defender to west London.

Three bids were rejected, and a satirical chant was forged by the fanbase of the Englishman: "Money can't buy you Stones" sung the Evertonians, to the tune of The Beatles' Can't Buy Me Love.

However, in the end, money did end up buying the now-28-year-old, as they accepted Manchester City's £47.5m bid the following summer. The rest is history.

john-stones-everton-manchester-city-everton-pep-guardiola

He has risen to become one of the Premier League's finest defenders, becoming a mainstay for Pep Guardiola and his country, earning praise from the Spaniard recently as his game has evolved:

"At the same time, it’s a new position for him [playing in midfield] and he has to be able all the time to concentrate more than when you play as a central defender or other positions.

“When you see the game from behind it’s completely different to when you play in the middle and are surrounded. Some movement and patterns are a little bit more difficult that’s why I appreciate a lot what he has done."

The former Barnsley gem has gone on to make 230 appearances for the Citizens, playing a key role in the winning of five Premier League titles, numerous domestic trophies, and most recently a Champions League too.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

FBref helps emphasise his stardom too, as when compared to other centre-backs across Europe he ranks in the top 4% for pass completion per 90, the top 11% for progressive passes per 90, and the top 7% for progressive carries per 90.

In Onana, there is certainly enough of a foundation for him to help spearhead Pochettino's side towards similar levels of success, especially given the wealth of talent he would be surrounded by.

After all, starring for a relegation-threatened outfit is no mean feat, and his 6.92 average rating suggested he did so.

Ranked fifth among those who started five or more games in the league, this figure was upheld through an 84% pass accuracy alongside 0.7 key passes, 1.1 interceptions and 2.2 tackles per game, via Sofascore.

Such was his importance to Frank Lampard and later Sean Dyche, his national team boss Roberto Martinez noted him as: "Another unique profile. Someone with such a physical presence and dynamics is needed, just think of Fellaini in 2018. He is also a leader on the field who has taken steps in his career."

Although his career is still in its infancy, should he emulate even half the success that Stones did at City with the west London outfit, Pochettino will be enamoured.
