Hodgson hasn't won a league game since the Eagles' 2-0 victory away to fellow strugglers Burnley in early November, with Palace losing five out of their last eight top-flight matches.

Only bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United and Burnley have scored fewer goals than the south Londoners so far this season, and Palace's recent form is a clear indication that they're candidates to be relegated.

Palace have survived in the Premier League since being promoted via the Championship play-offs in 2013, but the club's torrid form could result in them dropping back down to England's second tier just over 10 years after escaping it.

Hodgson is under increasing pressure at Selhurst Park, with the former England boss taking a stance of defiance in his latest press conference while insisting talk over his future will be natural.

“It’s a bit of a deja-vu situation for me at the moment, because after the games I find it hard to really accept too much criticism of the team’s performances, but on the other hand I’m talking to people whose judgement has to be from the result backwards, and the results have been poor," said Hodsgson on his precarious position of Brentford.

“So until such time as we can get some better results I would have to accept that (criticism), but I would be more concerned if the team was playing badly, and more concerned if we didn’t have the (Michael) Olises and the Eberechi Ezes to come back and help us out of this situation.”

There has been talk of former Nottingham Forest boss Cooper holding talks with Palace over the potentially vacant role, if Hodgson is indeed sacked.

Lopetegui contending to replace Hodgson at Palace

However, the Welshman is by no means their only candidate to succeed Hodgson, with ex-Wolves and Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui also in the frame.

Indeed, according to Football Insider, Lopetegui is a "strong contender" for the Palace job and is set to provide "growing competition" for Cooper.

The Spaniard has also been spotted at Selhurst as he looks to make a Premier League return, nearly five months after parting company with Wolves in August.

A Europa League winner at Sevilla, Lopetegui would bring real credentials, and he's been praised as a "strong leader" by Wolves owner Jeff Shi.

"Julen has a strong personality and he’s a coach with clear leadership, not just with football players but with the clubs he has been at," said Shi to the Wolves official website.

"He has a lot of experience in elite football and his track record is proven. We know we are in a difficult moment as a team right now, so we especially need a strong leader, with a strong personality, more than any other time I have been here. It is because of this that Julen was always our preferred choice."

واعتمد لاعبو الفريق العراقي على الهجمات المرتدة وتصدى محمد صبحي لتسديدة قوية من مهاجم الشرطة في الدقيقة الثانية والعشرين، وبعدها أهدر ناصر منسي فرصة في الدقيقة 30 لتسجيل هدف التعادل من تسديدة من داخل منطقة الجزاء.

وتوالت محاولات الأبيض وسدد عبد الله السعيد كرة قوية من خارج المنطقة علت عارضة مرمى الشرطة العراقي، لينتهي الشوط الأول بتقدم الضيوف بهدف دون رد.

ومع بداية الشوط الثاني هاجم الزمالك لتعديل النتيجة، وأهدر محمد عاطف فرصة للأبيض من تسديدة من على حدود منطقة جزاء الشرطة العراقي علت العارضة.

وفي الدقيقة 54 سدد شيكابالا كرة قوية من خارج منطقة الجزاء تصدى لها الحارس، بعدها كاد مصطفى شلبي أن يحرز هدف التعادل للأبيض من هجمة منظمة مع شيكابالا لينفرد بالمرمى ولكن حارس الشرطة العراقي يبعد الكرة بصعوبة.

وواصل الزمالك محاولاته الهجومية وأهدر ناصر منسي فرصة محققة من تسديدة من داخل منطقة الجزاء لكن الكرة مرت بجوار القائم، بعدها سدد مصطفى شلبي كرة قوية اصطدمت بعارضة مرمى الفريق العراقي.

وفي الدقيقة 61 نجح ناصر منسي في تسجيل هدف التعادل للزمالك من رأسية سكنت يسار الحارس.

ودفع الجهاز الفني للأبيض بعمر عبد العزيز بدلاً من محمد صبحي، وتمكن نبيل عماد دونجا من تسجيل الهدف الثاني للزمالك في الدقيقة 72 من تسديدة من داخل منطقة الجزاء سكنت على يمين الحارس.

وحاول لاعبو الشرطة تعديل النتيجة في حين سعى الأبيض لتعزيز التقدم، وفي الدقيقة 80 تمكن الضيوف من تعديل النتيجة من رأسية بانجا سكنت على يمين الحارس، ودفع الجهاز الفني للزمالك بزياد كمال بدلاً من نبيل عماد دونجا، وسامسون أكينيولا بدلاً من مصطفى شلبي.

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner is joining Tottenham on a six-month loan until the end of the season, as widely reported, and they're now also close to a full agreement for Dragusin as well.

Overnight reports suggested that Bayern Munich were presenting a real threat in regard to securing the Romanian centre-back, but now reliable sources like Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg are reporting that Dragusin is closing in on a move to Spurs.

Postecoglou will be thrilled by these developments in the last week, as he pleaded for Tottenham to make early winter signings just before the window opened.

"If you leave it towards the end of January… it's potentially not until mid to end of February when they get up to speed, depending where they're coming from, the league they're coming from," said Postecoglou on Spurs' January transfers.

"So there's a whole lot of moving parts. So yes, I'd love to do something early in the window but even me saying that puts a challenge on us – because other clubs know we want to do something early."

With both Werner and Dragusin, the Lilywhites potentially have a versatile new attacking option and a fresh, young centre-half who's coming off the back of an excellent year under Alberto Gilardino at Genoa.

However, they may not be done there, with previous reports suggesting that Postecoglou could be keen on signing a new midfielder for Tottenham as well.

Tottenham could "make a move" for Misehouy

As per Tottenham News, it is believed Spurs could make a move for young Ajax midfielder Gabriel Misehouy as his contract is currently set to expire in the summer.

The 18-year-old, who's seriously impressed at academy level for the Dutch giants, could leave for nothing this year as Ajax and the player's representatives fail to agree on new terms thus far.

Postecoglou's side could look to take advantage of this situation and swoop for Misehouy, who scouts apparently think is "better suited" to Tottenham than Stanis Idumbo – a fellow target from Ajax.

The latter is thought to be joining Sevilla with a medical pencilled in tomorrow, according to Fabrizio Romano, so Misehouy could come as a fine alternative to the Belgian.

This comes amid a "requirement" of Postecoglou's, with the Australian desiring a midfielder who can bring both attacking flair and ability to play further up field – two attributes which Misehouy is said to possess. The teenager has also been called an "interesting name" by Ajax podcaster Lars Jesse.

Former Sri Lanka allrounder Dilhara Lokuhettige has been slapped with three fresh corruption charges – these by the ICC’s own Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) – five months after the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) had also charged him.The ACU’s allegations are generally in line with the charges Lokuhettige had already received from the ECB. The ACU has charged him with: Fixing, contriving or otherwise influencing improperly, or being a party to any agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any International Match Directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach the Anti-Corruption Code Failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received by him to engage in corrupt conduct under the CodeLokuhettige was provisionally suspended by the ICC in November when the ECB laid its charges. The November allegations relate to the 2017 T10 tournament, to which Sri Lanka had sent a team. The ACU has not indicated whether their own charges relate to the same tournament.However, the “provisional suspension [from November] remains in full force and effect and he has additionally been provisionally suspended under the ICC Code pending the determination of these new charges,” an ICC release said. Lokuhettige has 14 days to respond to the new charges.Although not in the direct employ of SLC, and currently lives in Australia, Lokuhettige is understood to have strong contacts with coaches within the Sri Lanka system, having played at a high level in Sri Lanka between 2000 and 2016. Lokuhettige’s reputation had also been in question since the May 2018 Al Jazeera documentary on corruption on cricket, in which he was seen to be allegedly talking about a fix.Lokuhettige is one of three Sri Lanka players to be charged under the Anti-Corruption Code, alongside former fast bowler Nuwan Zoysa and former allrounder Sanath Jayasuriya. In February, Jayasuriya was banned for two years over the charges.
