Arsenal are believed to be willing to make a £94m offer to sign an “incredibly energetic” star this summer, according to a fresh transfer update.

Mikel Arteta has assembled arguably one of the Gunners' most impressive squads of all time, ensuring that they are still fighting for both Premier League and Champions League glory in April. That doesn't mean that more top-quality signings aren't needed in the summer transfer window, in order to make the north Londoners an even more daunting proposition moving forward.

Bologna attacker Joshua Zirkzee is one player who has been linked with a move to the Emirates, even being called "better than Erling Haaland", summing up how highly he is rated. He has 13 goal contributions (10 goals and three assists) in 26 Serie A starts in 2023/24 to date.

Another reported target is Martin Zubimendi, who Arteta is believed to be a huge fan of, with his compatriot shining at Real Sociedad currently, starting 27 La Liga matches this season and scoring four goals in the competition.

Arsenal could also look to add to their attack in the summer, in order to have a more prolific striker leading the line than Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, and both Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been backed to join in the coming months.

According to a new claim from Defensa Central, Arsenal are willing to spend as much as €110mm (£94m) to sign Real Madrid midfielder Edouardo Camavinga. The £205,000 per week midfielder's current deal doesn't expire until the summer of 2029, however.

The Gunners believe he can be an even greater force in the Premier League than in Spain, in terms of the attributes he possesses in his game.

In truth, Arsenal could find it hard to snap up Camavinga, considering what a prized asset he is at Madrid currently, arguably standing out as one of the finest midfielders in Europe. At just 21 years of age, he is already a key man for the European giants, showcasing his versatility by excelling at left-back, too.

Carlo Ancelotti has made it very clear how highly he thinks of the France international recently, saying of him:

"This is exactly what he's shown since arriving here, that he can make more of a difference coming off the bench. He is incredibly energetic. Eduardo is very young, he has to improve and learn more about how positioning, but he is still very important to us."

It is so encouraging to see Arsenal even in the conversation for such a brilliant footballer, outlining how much progress has been made under Arteta in recent years, and Camavinga could be a sensational addition to the squad.

He is a player who may go on to become world-class for a long time, assuming he avoids serious injury, but it would be a surprise if Madrid were willing to part ways with him any time soon unless he suddenly decides that he wants a fresh challenge. It'll be interesting to see if Arsenal launch a huge bid, though.

His weak goal return suggests that this an expensive gamble that didn't work whatsoever for Bielsa and co, with the Spanish centre-forward bagging a meagre 28 goals from 95 appearances.

15 of those strikes did come during the 2022-23 campaign however, which saw Rodrigo at least offer the Whites something positive during their disastrous relegation to the Championship, but there's no doubt that the current Al-Rayyan SC attacker still goes down as an expensive misfire from a Leeds perspective.

Regardless of this impactful final season, the lasting legacy of Rodrigo in a Leeds shirt was summed up by ex-striker Kevin Phillips who described his time at Leeds as "disappointing" in 2022.

Remarkably, Rodrigo was on £50k more than James is currently who – minus his off-day against the Black Cats – has been tearing up the second tier with unbelievable performances becoming second nature for the Welshman.

The Spanish striker earning two times more than James will sting for the former Manchester United attacker, who has completely turned around his Whites career this season making the drop down a division.

The revitalised £50k-per-week winger has 13 goals and seven assists this campaign in the Championship, finding himself just two goals off Rodrigo's best season total at the moment whilst operating down the channels.

Rodrigo is no doubt still earning a hefty pay packet out in the Middle East now, but when it comes to who will be remembered as a Whites icon worthy of a place in the history books, James will be appearing over the former £100k per week flop.

James will just be keeping everything crossed that he can handle the step up to the Premier League if his side get there at the end of a gruelling second-tier campaign, knowing that he once used to be a scapegoat when Leeds were dire at that level.

Rodrigo, on the other hand, will just want to see out his career now with Al-Rayyan and will view his time with Leeds as rather anticlimactic after arriving into the building as a major £27m coup – with his total cost when adding in his £15m salary standing at a hefty £42m wasted.

Philander’s 4-16 contains tourists before late South African wickets give England hope

South Africa’s bowlers, led gallantly by the retiring Vernon Philander, put their side in a commanding position before a cache of top-order wickets left England with some hope after an intriguing second day at Centurion.Philander did not concede a run from his opening five-over spell, which yielded one wicket, before finishing with the remarkable figures of 4 for 16 off 14.2 overs as England were restricted to just 181 in response to South Africa’s first-innings 284. He was well supported by strike bowling partner Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, the latter critically accounting for middle-order danger men Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow as the hosts thrived where the visitors had toiled the day before.But, with the second-day pitch offering enough variation and bounce to sow some uncertainty in the batsmen’s minds, England’s bowlers were able to make inroads late in the final session, sending South Africa to the close at 72 for 4 with debutant Rassie van der Dussen not out 17 and nightwatchman Nortje on 4.In all, 15 wickets fell in the day, but with South Africa’s lead approaching 200 it looked like a collapse of 7 for 39 by the tourists may turn out to be the most significant passage of play.South Africa had resumed on 277 for 9 before Stuart Broad had Philander caught behind off the 11th ball of the day. Broad, who had dismissed Rabada with the last ball on day one, finished South Africa’s first innings with four wickets, as did Sam Curran.Philander and Rabada had England floundering at 15 for 2 early in their reply. Philander dismissed Rory Burns in the fourth over of the innings, caught behind by Quinton de Kock with a beautiful delivery that zeroed in on off stump and clipped the bottom of the glove.Burns had already produced one nervous moment when he seemed to take his time in calling for a review when he was given out, caught behind off Rabada, on the first ball of the innings. Replays showed Burns had merely clipped his front pad with the bat and the decision was overturned.Rabada had Dom Sibley caught behind in a messy dismissal that initially wasn’t given out by umpire Paul Reiffel, prompting a review from South Africa before Sibley walked. Joe Denly called Sibley back to wait for the DRS result, but Reiffel instructed Sibley to keep walking as his reaction had suggested he’d hit the ball, which was confirmed on replay.Joe Root and Denly were given a tough examination, with Root needing to be checked over by the physio after being struck a heavy blow on the helmet by a Rabada bouncer. Denly, on nought, survived a dropped catch a short time later when he edged Rabada towards first slip van der Dussen, who grassed the chance as de Kock dived across him.The England pair set about launching a rescue mission, pushing their team to 60 for 2 at lunch, but Philander, who conceded his first run – a single to Root – on the 34th ball he bowled, struck with his 37th when he saw Root coming down the pitch and induced an outside edge that went through to de Kock.Denly shared a 72-run stand for the fourth wicket with Stokes but, having brought up his half-century with a lovely driven four off Dwaine Pretorius, Denly was gone three balls later edging the same bowler through to de Kock.Stokes was a welcome sight at the crease for England, who know only too well his ability to produce heroics when needed and who would have been worried by his absence from the field for a large part of the third session on day one as he was feeling unwell, but his stay at the crease was curtailed as Nortje came to the fore. Nortje bowled Bairstow through the gate with a rapid delivery that kept a little lower than expected and then had Stokes caught behind for 35.An excellent catch at short leg by Zubayr Hamza sent Curran back to the pavilion and handed Rabada his second wicket and when de Kock brilliantly caught Buttler off the bowling of Philander, he joined Mark Boucher (four times), AB de Villiers and Denis Lindsay as the only South African wicketkeepers to take six catches in an innings. Only four keepers have taken seven, and none of them for South Africa.England conceded a first-innings lead of 103 a short time later after Rabada had Broad caught by Dean Elgar and Philander bowled Jofra Archer.Early breakthroughs for James Anderson, Broad and Archer lifted England’s spirits, however. Anderson, who also took a wicket with the first ball of the match, struck in the first over of South Africa’s second innings to dismiss Aiden Markram lbw for 2. Broad then had Hamza caught down the leg side by a diving Buttler, who then took another tidy catch leaping to his right after Archer found Elgar’s inside edge.England had their fourth when Archer had Faf du Plessis caught at long leg via a down-on-one-knee scoop that flew straight to Curran.Van der Dussen and Nortje saw their side through to the close without further loss and, with their first-innings top-scorer de Kock still to make an appearance, South Africa held the upper hand.

The summer transfer window is guaranteed to be an extremely busy period for Manchester United, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen to complete a squad overhaul.

Talks have already begun between the two clubs for the forward this summer, but United are set to face competition from Premier League rivals such as Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, Gyokeres is reportedly keen to move on from the Portuguese giant at the end of the season after just one campaign in the Liga Portugal.

Man United’s 21-year-old star has led the line throughout the season after joining from Atalanta for £72m in the summer, but his time at the club so far hasn’t been helped by the inconsistency of the team as a whole.

Regardless, Hojlund has still been relatively impressive despite only scoring his first Premier League goal on Boxing Day, and he now has 13 strikes across all competitions, including five in the Champions League.

Additionally, it’s important to remember that any young striker is bound to go through spells of form, both excellent and poor, and that’s been the case this season already.

However, it’s clear that Ratcliffe wants to sign a player who puts the ball in the back of the net for fun while also having some experience, hence the potential move for Gyokeres, who’s been simply unstoppable this campaign.

The 25-year-old wipes the floor with Hojlund in every single important statistic, which is no surprise considering he’s scored a whopping 36 goals in 43 matches across all competitions this season.

The dynamic forward has been truly instrumental to the way his side plays, ticking every box that a coach would look for in a modern number nine, in regards to his excellent movement, finishing, strength, and aerial dominance, as per analyst Ben Mattinson.

That said, what stands out above Hojlund is Gyokeres’ ability to create for his teammates and turn a minimal opportunity into a goal, with the assists and passing statistics proving that the Dane is way behind in that metric.

Furthermore, the former Coventry ace’s technical ability is incredible, with his dribbling and ball-carrying ability enabling him to thrive against any setup in any game state, unlike Hojlund, who has proven to be more dangerous in transition thus far in a United shirt.

Overall, the “clinical finisher,” as dubbed by Mattinson, would provide a consistent output as he serves as a reliable source of goals, and due to his complete profile, he would thrive at United either in place of or alongside Hojlund.

أثنى جلين موراي لاعب برايتون السابق، على أداء محمد صلاح بمباراة ليفربول وساوثهامبتون بالدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

وكان محمد صلاح مرة أخرى هو البطل لفريق ليفربول، حيث قلب النتيجة بعد أن تأخر الفريق 2-1، ليحقق الفوز 3-2 على ساوثهامبتون.

وتحدث موراي عبر “بي بي سي راديو 5 لايف”، وأشار إلى أن صلاح لم يظهر إلا في آخر 30 دقيقة من المباراة.

وقال موراي: “كان الشوط الثاني رائعًا، كانت المباراة مفتوحة وصادقة، وكان الفريقان يحاولان الفوز بالنقاط الثلاث”.

وأضاف: “نجم اللقاء، شخص كان هادئًا جدًا في الـ60 دقيقة الأولى أو نحو ذلك، شخص فعلها مرارًا وتكرارًا على مر السنين، محمد صلاح، سجل هدفين ليضع ليفربول في المقدمة 3-2، ويضعه بفارق ثماني نقاط في قمة الدوري عن أقرب ملاحقيه”.

ورفع محمد صلاح رصيده في ترتيب هدافي الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز إلى 10 أهداف، بفارق هدفين عن إيرلينج هالاند متصدر القائمة.
