A última vez que o Corinthians conseguiu embalar quatro jogos seguidos com vitórias foi em março de 2021, quando o clube superou a Ponte Preta, São Caetano e Mirassol, pelo Paulistão, e o Salgueiro, pela Copa do Brasil. A equipe ainda era treinada por Vágner Mancini e não possuía a maioria dos jogadores do atual elenco.

E com base no histórico contra o Tigre do ABC, o torcedor corintiano pode se empolgar, já que o Timão não perde para o São Bernardo há nove anos. As equipes já se enfrentaram seis vezes, com quatro vitórias para o clube alvinegro, um empate e um triunfo para o Bernô.

APRESENTAÇÃO

O treinador chegou como uma das primeiras contratações da SAF. Na coletiva de apresentação, Luís Castro ressaltou os desafios que teria para frente, mas afirmou que acreditava no projeto de John Textor para equipe alvinegra.

– É com muita felicidade que eu represento o Botafogo. É verdade que é um desafio difícil, temos muitas dificuldades naturais, algumas dificuldades a nível de organização e espaço de treino. Mas vi muita vontade de melhorar e trabalhar. O trabalho é muito mais importante que o talento, eu acho que o Botafogo há muita gente com talento e com trabalho, isso facilita mais as coisas. Eu escolhi o Botafogo, tive outros convites, mas escolhi o Botafogo. Foi uma escolha consciente. Eu acredito muito no projeto, que o John Textor quer para o projeto, nos torcedores do Botafogo, na estrutura, nas pessoas que estão envolvidas e eu sou uma pessoa de convicções e eu escolhi o Botafogo – declarou Luís Castro.

INÍCIO DE TRABALHO

Os primeiros seis meses do português foram bem difíceis. O Botafogo realizou diversas reformulações no time ao longo da temporada e não conseguiu proporcionar condições adequadas de trabalho. O técnico reconheceu estas dificuldades na época.

– As dificuldades foram muito além do que eu esperava. Não pensava que não teria um campo para treinar. Só para exemplificar. Os jogadores equipam-se há duas semanas a esta parte em um balneário. Não tinha um balneário comum, tinham que equipar-se de forma separada até então. Em seis meses, poucas coisas foram resolvidas – declarou Luís Castro em setembro.

EVOLUÇÃO

O cenário mudou para melhor depois desta declaração do treinador. Eduardo e Tiquinho viraram destaques do Botafogo, Adryelson e Víctor Cuesta formaram uma zaga sólida, e os jogadores alvinegros se tornaram praticamente imbatíveis fora de casa.

O Botafogo protagonizou atuações regulares e embalou uma sequência de resultados positivos no fim do Brasileirão. Apesar do início de trabalho ruim, Luís Castro conseguiu dar uma cara para equipe alvinegra na reta final da última temporada.

– Vencer no Nilton é fantástico. É um sentimento de felicidade enorme. Hoje é um dos momentos mais felizes da minha passagem pelo Botafogo. O sentimento ao longo do jogo era de que as pessoas estavam felizes no estádio. Esse equilíbrio é o que nos faz hoje estar de uma forma descansada naquilo que seria uma possível queda para a Série B. Temos no horizonte a luta por uma competição internacional (Libertadores). É isso que nos move todos os dias: ganhar, ganhar e ganhar – afirmou Luís Castro em outubro.

O Glorioso chegou perto, mas não conseguiu se classificar para Libertadores. O time entrou na última rodada com chances reais de acesso, mas acabou não ficando de fora da competição internacional.

PROJEÇÕES PARA 2023

Depois de um 2022 desgastante, Luís Castro revelou que esperava contar com pelo menos seis reforços para próxima temporada e afirmou que sonhava em conquistar títulos pelo clube.

-Conquistar títulos é viciante. Nos últimos anos eu ganhei e queria ganhar no Botafogo. Sinto uma energia positiva no clube e na torcida. Sinto toda gente entusiasmada, quero aproveitar para crescermos mais e mais. É o que procuro fazer através da minha liderança diária. Estamos monitorando os emprestados, seus desempenhos, podem regressar, mas nesse momento não está definido. E tem as contratações, temos seis posições monitoradas para integrar nosso elenco -declarou Luís Castro no “Charla Podcast” em dezembro.

COMEÇO DE TEMPORADA

Depois da excursão em Londres, os jogadores entraram em período de férias e se reapresentaram no dia 9 de janeiro para iniciar os trabalhos de 2023. O Botafogo, no entanto, não conseguiu protagonizar boas atuações neste começo de temporada.

Luís Castro promoveu diversos rodízios e formações, mas não conseguiu dar uma cara para equipe alvinegra. O treinador não conseguiu conduzir os jogadores alvinegros para semifinal do Campeonato Carioca e atualmente vive um momento conturbado com os torcedores.

– A responsabilidade é 100% minha, 0% dos jogadores. Sempre olhei de frente para os momentos difíceis. Não ter sido demitido ao longo da minha carreira não quer dizer que os maus momentos nunca apareceram, mas que eles foram ultrapassados. Foram sempre assumidos por mim como responsável máximo – declarou Luís Castro em março deste ano.

O Glorioso terá as finais da Taça Rio nas próximas semanas e depois entrará nas disputas do Brasileirão e da Sul-Americana. Caso os jogadores não protagonizem boas atuações nos próximos compromissos, Luís Castro viverá um momento ainda mais delicado no clube.

– Está sendo feito um estudo, ponderando quantidade de público, estrutura do estádio. Imagino que a gente (Água Santa) decida entre hoje (22) e amanhã. É uma decisão, uma final histórica para nós. Um time do nosso porte fazer frente ao Palmeiras. O clube entende que a Vila pode ser palco do primeiro jogo, mas pode ser a Arena Barueri, talvez até um estádio maior ainda. Fator financeiro, público, envolve muita coisa – revelou o executivo de futebol do Água Santa,Julio Rondinelli, em entrevista ao LANCE!.

Na vitória nos pênaltis sobre o Bragantino, o Netuno colocou mais de 11 mil pessoas nas arquibancadas da Vila Belmiro. Como revelado em primeira mão pelo L!, o clube não pagou aluguel para jogar no estádio e custeou apenas as despesas operacionais.

Caso a primeira partida da final seja disputada novamente no estádio do Santos, a diretoria do Água Santa aposta na boa relação com a direção do time do litoral para que o cenário ‘sem aluguel’ se repita.

Antes da decisão pela Vila, o Netuno também avaliou o Ramalhão, do Santo André, e o Canindé, da Portuguesa. Porém, a casa alvinegra era a favorita do técnico Thiago Carpini.

– Nós tínhamos a possibilidade de pelo menos três estádios. A Vila Belmiro tem proximidade de Diadema, o campo é de um nível muito bom e o estádio comportaria o jogo contra o Bragantino. Os presidentes se conversaram, houve uma cordialidade. Arcaríamos com o custo de operação do jogo. Além disso, o nosso treinador, o Thiago Carpini, apontou objetivamente que, se o jogo não pudesse ser na Arena Inamar, que fosse na Vila Belmiro. Acho que foi uma boa escolha – explicou Rondinelli.

Pela falta de condições estruturais, o Água Santa está impossibilitadode atuar na Arena Inamar, sua casa em Diadema, desde a semifinal. As finais do Paulistão estão marcadas para acontecer nos dias 2 e 9 de abril, ambas às 16h.

– Fizemos uma grande partida. Entramos conscientes do que teríamos que fazer dentro de campo e que tínhamos que vencer. Então conseguimos o resultado positivo e agora é seguir trabalhando. Nosso próximo desafio será pela Copa do Brasil, um jogo difícil fora de casa, então é trabalhar, nos prepararmos bem para seguirmos nesse caminho de vitórias – completou.

Philipe Sampaio apresentou uma síncope atraumática no dia 16 de fevereiro e precisou ser levado para ambulância. O zagueiro ficou mais de uma semana realizando exames antes de poder retornar aos gramados. Ticket sales for the Ashes T20Is at Edgbaston, The Oval and Lord’s are internally considered a major priority by the ECB, who have made a point of marketing the women’s series alongside the men’s.Warwickshire announced last week that they have already sold over 14,000 tickets for the Edgbaston T20I, which looks set to become the best-attended England Women’s home game outside of world events. The optimistic Bangladesh fan would have predicted exactly the opposite of what happened in this England tour. Shakib Al Hasan’s men won the T20I series, convincingly in the second game in Dhaka, after conceding the ODI series 1-2 last week. Bangladesh are usually at their best when they play ODI cricket, but who could tell after this tour?Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a great all-round hand in this win. He first took 4-12 in his four overs, an economically effective spell that sparked England’s second collapse in the innings. He put the exclamation point in when, promoted to No 5, he knocked a couple of sixes in a 16-ball 20.Najmul Hossain Shanto ensured Bangladesh didn’t have too much of a wobble in the end, remaining unbeaten on 46 off 47 balls. Taskin Ahmed hit the winning runs with two fours in the penultimate over, as they ran off in delight.This was Bangladesh’s first bilateral T20I series against England, and having emerged winners, they ticked off another little stat. A first series victory (min of three matches played) after two-and-a-half years. It also ended England’s long run of success in this format, having won the T20 World Cup, and bilateral series against Australia and Pakistan last year.England’s strong start slips into collapseThe last thing England wanted with limited batting options was a collapse but that’s exactly what happened to them in the middle overs. They raced to 50 for 1 in seven overs when Shakib removed Phil Salt, who continued his get-set-get-out theme on this tour. The impressive Hasan Mahmud broke through Jos Buttler in the next over, a turning point for the home side. Buttler made a quickfire 67 in the first game, and was expected to be a major threat. But he was undone by a yorker length delivery that swerved back into his stumps prompting Hasan to leap in delight. Hasan had given up just five runs in two overs in the death in the first game, rapidly growing in reputation as a white-ball bowler. Then it was Mehidy’s turn to shine, as Moeen Ali hit one down deep midwicket’s throat in the next over. England were 57 for 4, having lost three wickets in the space of 16 balls.Mehidy sparks second England collapseSam Curran and Ben Duckett added 34 runs for the fifth wicket, before Mehidy’s triple-strike sent the visitors into free fall. Litton stumped Curran and Chris Woakes in the space of three balls. Both tricky deliveries but handled smoothly by the gloveman. As soon as England reached three-figures, Mehidy landed his maiden four-wicket haul when Chris Jordan hit one to deep midwicket. England slipped from 91 for 4 to 100 for 7 in 17 balls.The remaining three wickets fell in the last over. Duckett, the only one who looked remotely close to giving England a good finish, was caught superbly by Shanto, before Rehan Ahmed and Jofra Archer were run out off the last two balls of the innings.Shanto calms nervesBangladesh didn’t have the smoothest chase. Curran removed Litton for yet another soft dismissal, caught at deep square leg, the only deep fielder on the leg-side at the time. Rony Talukdar couldn’t quite get Archer away, falling for 9 in the sixth over. Legspinner Rehan then took his first T20I wicket, when Towhid Hridoy, playing his second T20I, toe-ended the ball to Woakes at point. It was a rank half-tracker from Rehan, but he’d nonetheless take the wicket.Shanto held his own at the other end, adding 41 runs in 5.2 overs with Mehidy. But Bangladesh slipped again, this time losing Mehidy, Shakib and Afif Hossain in the space of two overs. Shakib threw away his wicket, while Archer blew away Afif’s off bail, which landed at fine leg. Shanto and Taskin scored the remaining 15 runs, with the former providing the calming influence in that final partnership.

Contrasting half-centuries from Stafanie Taylor and Chinelle Henry helped West Indies beat Ireland by six wickets in the third ODI in Gros Islet, and wrap up the series 2-0.Chasing a modest 204, West Indies were 94 for 4 around the halfway mark when Taylor and Henry joined hands. The pair added 110 in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand to take the side home with 8.5 overs to spare. For both batters, it was their second half-century in as many innings, and for Taylor, her 40th in ODIs.As a result, West Indies pocketed five points from the series – the second ODI was washed out – to improve their position on the Women’s Championship table. They now have seven points from nine games and are placed fifth. Ireland are still at the bottom with a solitary point from their nine outings.After opting to bat, Ireland kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 203 on the last ball of the innings. Gaby Lewis was the only one to show some fight and cross 20. Opening the innings, Lewis scored an unbeaten 95 off 121 balls, thus becoming the sixth batter in women’s ODIs to carry her bat.Having said that, Ireland were in a decent position at one stage. After Cherry-Ann Fraser dismissed Leah Paul for 2, Lewis and Orla Prendergast took the side to 44 for 1 in the ninth over. She got another life on 29 when Murray dropped her at short fine leg off Laura Delany. The second reprieve was just after left-arm spinner Aimee Maguire had Rashada Williams stumped for 17. Maguire would dismiss Shemaine Campbelle in the same manner in her next over but that would be the last time Ireland would pick up a wicket in the game.Henry, who had smashed an unbeaten 53 off just 37 balls in the first ODI, was at it again. While Taylor took 85 balls to bring up her half-century, Henry reached there in just 53 deliveries.With the target just nine runs away, Taylor hit two fours and a single in three balls to seal the win.
