West Ham have nothing left to fight for this season.

The club are mathematically safe from relegation and are surely out of the running to finish seventh, a position currently occupied by the ever-more impressive Wolves.

The Hammers do, however, have a London derby to prepare for.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side take on Tottenham Hotspur this weekend in perhaps their last genuinely emotive encounter of the season. After their trip to face Spurs, the Irons round off the season with games against Southampton and Watford.

Robert Snodgrass has already issued a rallying cry to his team-mates, insisting that there can be no greater motivation than the chance to beat your local rivals.

If you think that sounds tinpot, you’d be wrong. In fact, it’s anything but, and will surely be music to the ears of fans and management alike.

Manuel Pellegrini has said that he wants to imbue West Ham with a “big-club” mentality. Having managed at Manchester City, and won the Premier League with them, that makes complete sense. And the Irons’ performances against the top six this season have suggested that it is possible.

Wins over Arsenal and Manchester United at the London Stadium, plus a draw with Liverpool, have given fans encouraging signs. But Spurs is the big fish, the Moby Dick to the Irons’ Ahab.

There is no club they like to beat more but their record away to Spurs in recent years is shoddy at best. Back in 2013, the Irons turned up to White Hart Lane and won 3-0, then knocked them out of the League Cup and beat them at Upton Park. Cue “it’s happened again” chants. Since then, however, the Irons have won away at Spurs once – their 3-2 League Cup triumph in 2017. There have been 11 meetings home and away since, and the Hammers have won just three.

This game, then, is an acid test for Pellegrini and his men.

After all, big clubs tend to beat their local rivals – take Manchester City’s comprehensive beating of Manchester United on Wednesday, or Liverpool’s dominance over Everton, as evidence – and West Ham are at risk of allowing this to turn into a one-sided rivalry too.

There is the carrot of history, though. Spurs have yet to lose at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in any competition. They have beaten Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League and also emerged victorious against Manchester City in the first leg of their crazy Champions League quarter-final tie. They have scored eight goals and are yet to concede.

West Ham, then, have the perfect opportunity to declare the honeymoon period well and truly over. Spurs may also have one eye on their Champions League semi-final first leg tie against Ajax, meaning rotation may become a necessity for Mauricio Pochettino.

If Pellegrini’s men can turn up and win, it will become the abiding memory of something of a disappointing season. The Irons spent a lot of money in the summer and have not really progressed, instead spending the majority of the season treading water, hoping for a spark of inspiration. This could be exactly that.

Beat Spurs and West Ham will not only enter the history books, but also rescue a largely mediocre season and potentially torpedo their rivals’ chances of a top-four finish in the process.

Schadenfreude is a potent weapon, after all.

ويُعد تشيلسي أكثر الفرق تحقيقًا لسلسلة اللا هزيمة في ملعبها، في البريميرليج، بعد أن خاض 86 مباراة بلا خسارة في الفترة بين 2004 و2008.

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a swoop for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, per AS via Sport Witness.

What’s the word?

Ndombele has emerged as a standout player for Lyon in recent years, playing a total of 91 times for the club.

He featured in every game for the club in the Champions League and scored in both group matches against TSG Hoffenheim.

A central midfielder with the ability to play further forward and in defensive midfield, Ndombele has been courted by both Real Madrid and Manchester City, per the report, with Spurs also listed as potential suitors.

The player’s agent has reportedly communicated to interested clubs that Ndombele would like to move to England.

And Lyon are said to have placed an asking price of €100million (£86.1m) on the 22-year-old, who remains their prized asset.

More than Dembele’s replacement

Spurs need to bring in midfield reinforcements this summer, having seen Mousa Dembele move to China in the January transfer window.

Ndombele would, of course, replace the Belgium international but he represents something more.

The youngster is one of the most sought-after players in the European game and is prized by the biggest clubs on the continent.

If Spurs, who are in the Champions League semi-finals, can beat their rivals to his signature, it sends a serious message.

They have not spent any money at all since January 2018, when they secured the signing of Lucas Moura from PSG.

There is money saved; spending it on Ndombele would reinforce and refresh their midfield with a player who has the ability to grow into one of the best in the world.

Splashing £86.1m on one player may seem out of character for Spurs but it could turn out to be something approaching a bargain and would show that the club have finally reached the top table of European football, and that they are there to stay.

وتطرق للحديث عن الثنائي أحمد حسن كوكا ومصطفى محمد قائلا: “كوكا يقدم مستوى جيدا في الخارج، ومصطفى محمد يسير مع الزمالك بشكل رائع وأصبح هداف الفريق”.

وأكمل: “مصطفى محمد يستحق التواجد في تشكيلة منتخب مصر الأساسية، فهو لاعب يتميز بالرأسيات، وستكون المنافسة بين الثنائي في صالح المدير الفني حسام البدري”.

واختتم: “يجب عدم التعصب بين الجماهير التي تظهر على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، وأتمنى أن يرسل أشرف صبحي وزير الشباب والرياضة رسائل تهدئة للجماهير”.

جدير بالذكر أن الأهلي يستعد لمواجهة الزمالك يوم 27 نوفمبر المقبل في نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا لأول مرة في التاريخ.

كشفت شبكة قنوات “TyC Sports” الأرجنتينية، أنّ قائد منتخب الأرجنتين وأيقونة برشلونة؛ ليونيل ميسي، قد تعرض لإصابة مع التانجو، خلال تدريبات الألبيسيليستي استعدادًا لمباريات التصفيات المؤهلة لكأس العالم 2022 في قطر.

الأرجنتين تستعد لملاقاة باراجواي في الثالث عشر من شهر نوفمبر الجاري، ثم تواجه بيرو يوم 18 من الشهر ذاته.

When writing his predictions for the playoff action set to take place this weekend, David Prutton has sat on the fence when it comes to picking a winner between Leeds and Derby.

For the first leg at Pride Park, the former midfielder has refused to back his former club as he has tipped up a draw for this fixture.

What’s been said then?

The 37-year-old has found this game tough to call due to Leeds’ poor recent form and the club’s recent histories against one another. He wrote in his predictions:

“In terms of drama this game should be right up there, even without taking into consideration what happened between these sides earlier in the season. More importantly for Derby, they have been given a footballing lesson by Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds twice, and you can only hope for the Rams’ sake that Frank Lampard has learned from that.

“Leeds, in form terms, are not playing well. They picked up just a point from their final four games and now they have to pick themselves up again quickly. This should be closer than the two league games were.”

The Sky Sports pundit eventually predicted a 1-1 draw between the two sides.

Doesn’t bode well

A former Leeds and Nottingham Forest player backing against the Whites in this one doesn’t bode well for their chances at Pride Park.

Prutton has reason to be biased both towards Leeds and against Derby, but he still couldn’t bring himself to predict a win for Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit.

Playoff semi-final first legs have historically been cagey affairs, and this match is set up perfectly to follow that trend.

It will undoubtedly be a close game, but Leeds’ recent form has Derby coming into this one as favourites, which is incredible considering the two games the sides have played against each other already this season.

Premier League football is awaiting the Magpies once again next season, but after a 13th-place finish this term, are Newcastle fans really excited for another campaign of potential struggles next year? Will Rafael Benitez even stay after all of this? If so, there will certainly be talks between him and his team as to where they need to improve. 

Indeed, there is a lot of speculation involving Benitez and where he is going to be spending his time next season (The Telegraph), and any Newcastle United fan will be hoping he decides to stay at St. James’ Park.

So, how can they improve? There will no doubt be evaluations for the club and issues they need to address. And here’s a couple of those issues that may have ruined Newcastle’s season.

Dropping points against much weaker teams

They haven’t always had glorious victories like the one over Manchester City to cheer about. At times, there have been some real poor results and performances from the Toon Army. Notably, a 1-1 draw to Brighton and a 0-0 draw to Fulham earlier in the season, results which really gave Newcastle reason to worry about whether they would be playing Premier League football again next year.

Luckily for the fans, Rafa and his players managed to turn it around but of course, next season everyone around the club will be hoping games against the weaker teams in the division don’t cause as much problems.

Spending on one player rather than investing in multiple areas

During the January transfer window, Mike Ashley splashed the cash on Miguel Almiron, despite the fact that a lot of problems began to rise within various positions in the squad. This really seemed like a waste, especially when they could have used this money to improve more than just one area on the pitch.

Everyone around the club will be hoping that Rafa and the board will be using their transfer budget a little more wisely in the summer, and will improve more than just one problem area in the squad.

وواصل: “يروق لي كثيرًا أداء فيليبي لويس، وكذلك أليكس ساندرو الذي أتابعه عن كثب، ولا سيما طريقته في الدفاع وقراءة مجريات المباراة، أتابع مارسيلو أيضًا”.

وعن اللاعب الذي يعتبره أفضل ظهير أيسر في العالَم الآن، أكد لودي: “آندي روبرتسون في صفوف ليفربول وألفونسو ديفيز في صفوف بايرن ميونخ هما لاعبان استثنائيان، حتى أن ديفير أصغر مني، وروبرتسون ما زال صغيرًا، إنهما عظيمان ويملكان إمكانيات كبيرة جدًا”.

Steven Gerrard and company won’t have enjoyed the half an hour journey back from Rugby Park after losing 2-1 to Kilmarnock on Sunday. The loss meant that the Gers have taken just two points out of a possible 12 off of the Ayrshire side this season, although that might have been three from 12 had Borna Barisic not given away a silly penalty late on.

Whilst the game had a dead-rubber feel about it, if anything, it served as a reminder as to why Barisic has been in and out, but mostly out of the side this season. The Croatian full-back only signed at Ibrox last summer after impressing against the Gers for NK Osijek in a Europa League qualifier, but the £1.8 million man, as valued by Transfermarkt, has been woeful for the most part this season.

The 26-year-old is just one of the many reasons why Gerrard has struggled at left-back this season. With both Barisic and Jon Flanagan flopping, Lee Wallace spending most of the season in the solitary confinement he’s seemingly been in since last season’s episode with Graeme Murty and Andy Halliday a midfielder by trade, you can see why these problems have surfaced.

Barisic’s short time in Glasgow hasn’t been memorable at all, and it’s probably best that he bows out like that. The only way that the Ibrox faithful are in danger of having lasting memories of the Croatian is by way of some massive blunder. We’re yet to see anything from the full-back to suggest that he can prove otherwise, and as that’s the case Gerrard should get rid and bring in a more capable defender.

Whether or not Gerrard does go out this summer and targets a left-back is still to be seen, but whilst they continue to limp through with Barisic, Flanagan and Halliday holding down the fort on the left of the back four their title dream will remain just that. Should the issue be addressed next season then hopes will be boosted, but for now, shipping off Barisic is key as the silly season approaches thick and fast.
