Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Fabio Paratici is eager to sign Antonio Rudiger…

What’s the word?

That’s according to Football Insider, who claim the Lilywhites recruitment chief is “calling every day” to try and win the race to sign the out-of-contract Chelsea centre-back.

The 28-year-old has emerged as a ‘top target’ for Spurs as they look to sign him for nothing in the summer following his likely departure from Stamford Bridge.

However, despite the Italian being in constant contact with Rudiger’s camp, the north Londoners face stiff competition from some of Europe’s biggest teams, including Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Major upgrade

Despite his contractual situation, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has continued to trust the German international to regularly start matches, featuring 25 times across the Premier League and Champions League.

After securing a winners’ medal in the latter competition last season, Rudiger would undoubtedly be a massive upgrade on several of Antonio Conte’s current options at Spurs and his familiarity with not just the English top-flight, but the Italian manager himself would help tenfold.

He has recorded 45 of his 176 appearances for the Chelsea under Conte. They even won the 2017/18 FA Cup together, leading to the German describing his boss as a “very good coach” to reporters at the time.

Rudiger has averaged 2.1 aerial duels won, 1.3 tackles and an 86.4% passing accuracy, having been only one of two players to register over 1,400 minutes in the Premier League this term, as per WhoScored, who also state his strengths as being passing and more crucially concentration.

The £31.5m-rated colossus has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers over the past 12 months, with BT Sport pundit and Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand a big fan of his.

“Look at Rudiger, he’s arguably, since Tuchel has been there [at Chelsea], been the best defender in the Premier League,” he told his podcast (via the Metro). “Him or [Ruben] Dias in that time. He’s been unbelievable, he’s like an animal.”

Both Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez, who has previously been lambasted as a “liability” to Spurs have struggled in recent games and neither are up to the standard of Rudiger, given his vast experience and trophy history.

Paratici could land a massive upgrade on the latter with an ambitious swoop for the Chelsea star this summer.

A number of Liverpool supporters have reacted negatively to a claim that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will need a scan on an injury picked up against Brentford.

Glasgow Rangers have been dealt a fresh setback in their bid to bring John Souttar to Ibrox in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by the Daily Record, which relayed a claim made by Hearts manager Robbie Neilson stating that it would take a “crazy bid” for his club to part ways with the centre-back this month.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side recently won the race to sign the 25-year-old on a pre-contract deal, beating the likes of Sheffield United and Blackburn to the defender’s signature for a free transfer at the end of the season, although it is reported that Ross Wilson is now weighing up an offer to bring the Scotland international to Glasgow in the current window.

However, in a recent statement, Hearts backed up their manager’s claim that they are firmly against letting Souttar leave Tynecastle in January, with the club announcing: “The club reiterates that John is an important member of the squad and will remain so until the end of the season unless a significant and satisfactory offer is made during the January transfer window.”

Van Bronckhorst will be fuming

Considering just how impressive Souttar has been for Hearts so far this season, in addition to the fact that Van Bronckhorst is currently experiencing issues in the heart of his defence – with Leon Balogun and Filip Helander out injured and Connor Goldson being free to discuss a move away from the club – the news that the Jam Tarts look set to play hardball over sanctioning the 25-year-old’s departure this month with have left the Dutchman fuming.

Indeed, over his 18 Premiership appearances in the current campaign, the £900k-rated defender has been in remarkable form, helping his side to keep five clean sheets, scoring three goals and creating three big chances for his teammates, as well as taking 1.1 shots and making 0.5 key passes per game.

The £3.1k-per-week centre-back has also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making 1.5 interceptions, 0.8 tackles, 4.4 clearances and 44.9 passes and winning 71% of his duels per match.

These returns have seen the Scotland defender average an astonishing SofaScore match rating of 7.43, not only ranking him as Neilson’s best performer in the league, but also as the fifth-best player in the entire division.

As such, it is clear to see that bringing Souttar to Ibrox this month would undoubtedly provide Rangers’ chances of going on to secure a second Premiership title in two years with a considerable boost.

However, following the latest update from Tynecastle, it would appear as if Wilson has a lot of work to do if he is to get a deal over the line for the 25-year-old in the current window, while missing out on the centre-back in January would certainly come as a blow to Van Bronckhorst and his side.

Lancashire have confirmed that the club’s committee will propose Jack Livingstone for the position of president at the next AGM, to be held at Old Trafford on June 19.Until then, he is nominated as president-elect. The position of president has been vacant since the death of Lord Steinberg in November last year.Livingstone has been an active member of LCCC since 1947 and has had a successful business career, most notably in the finance sector. He has also held several positions with various North West charities, including the chairmanship of the Lord’s Taverners North West Region and the LCCC Youth Trust.In 2005, he and Lord Steinberg launched an appeal to raise money for youth cricket development in Lancashire.

Após ver o palco de violência que o jogo da final da Copa Sul-Americana, contra o Independiente, se tornou, o Flamengodecidiu extinguir o plano de sócio-torcedor corporativo, que abrigava basicamente torcidas organizadas. O clube anunciou essa medida após o “Fantástico” divulgar, neste domingo, imagens inéditas da invasão de torcedores.

Em nota oficial, a diretoria do Flamengo se justificou afirmando considerar que houve violação ao termo de ajustamento de conduta do Ministério Público do Rio de Janeiro (MP-RJ) e também aos termos de serviço do contrato com o clube. No plano em questão, as torcidas organizadas pagavam uma mensalidade de apenas R$10 para terem desconto em ingressos e prioridade quando abertas as vendas de ingressos.

Em entrevista ao “Fantástico”, o CEO do Rubro-Negro, Fred Luz, afirmou que o clube pode tomar outra medida: não jogar mais no Maracanã casose admitirem, junto com o Estado, a incapacidade de impedir a violência em evento de grande porte. Vale lembrar que o Flamengo ainda tem a Ilha do Urubu para mandar seus jogos.

– Se o Flamengo não se sentir em condições para que esses jogos sejam realizados aqui, a gente vai ter que humildemente admitir a incapacidade nossa, do estado, do município, de não conseguir fazer o evento aqui. E pedir pra transferir para algum outro lugar.
