A eleição para presidente do Flamengo já tem data marcada: dia 8 de dezembro, no primeiro sábado após o término do Campeonato Brasileiro. Até o momento, são quatro chapas inscritas na eleição, com os seguintes candidatos: Marcelo Vargas, José Carlos Peruano, Ricardo Lomba e Rodolfo Landim. Ainformação foi inicialmente publicada pelo site do “Globo Esporte”.

Esta será a primeira vez que o pleito para a escolha de um novo mandatário será em um final de semana. A decisão visa fazer com que muitos sócios que não residem no Rio de Janeiro possam votar.

Os bastidores do clube estão agitados por conta da eleição. A candidatura de Lomba, nome da situação, inclusive, ainda está sendo analisada pelos órgãos responsáveis. A Comissão Jurídica pediu a impugnação por conta do cargo que o dirigente ocupa na Receita Federal.

Alvo de críticas, o presidente Eduardo Bandeira de Mello afirmou, em coletiva na última quarta-feira, que os pedidos de impeachment não ‘tira o sono’ dele e ressaltou a transparência da gestão.

Atualmente, o colégio eleitoral do Flamengo conta com pouco mais de oito mil nomes.

David Warner will play for the Big Bash League (BBL) title-holders Sydney Sixers in the 2012-13 season. Warner has transferred to the Sixers – the team from Sydney’s eastern suburbs – from the Sydney Thunder, whom he captained in the inaugural BBL.The transfer was expected, after Warner had expressed interest in the Sixers and failed to strike a deal with the Thunder, leaving him unsigned at the end of the competition’s primary recruitment window. Subsequently, the Thunder had taken Michael Clarke on board for the 2012-13 season.Warner said he was happy to be representing the eastern suburbs. “I had a great time last year at the Sydney Thunder and thank the fans at ANZ Stadium [the Thunder’s base] for their support, but I’m an eastern suburbs boy and I am really looking forward to playing at the SCG [the Sixers’ base] for the Sixers,” he told the franchise’s website.Apart from winning the BBL last summer, the Sixers cultivated a happy team environment under the coaching of Trevor Bayliss and the wider management of Stuart Clark. By contrast, the Thunder battled for strong results and faced difficulties surrounding their home base, with transport believed to be one of several issues for players.As a current member of Australia Test team, Warner is unlikely to play more than one BBL game this year – the season-opening derby between the Sixers and the Thunder at the SCG on December 7 – but his presence would be considered crucial in terms of marketing the franchise and building its fan base.

Andy Flower, who has relinquished his day-to-day involvement with England’s one-day side, has admitted that he found the conflicting demands of his coaching role “unsustainable” as he agonised over his need to contribute to a family life with his wife and three young children.Flower, according to an estimate from England’s managing director of cricket, Hugh Morris, has spent around 60% of his life away from home over the last few years – with no prospect that if he had maintained both roles the burden would ease for at least the next eight years.Flower, the England coach since early 2008, will remain as England’s team director with responsibility for the playing strategies and preparation of the team in all formats of the game. He remains in direct charge of the Test side but will relinquish the day-to-day management of the limited-overs teams to Ashley Giles, who will step down as Warwickshire’s director of cricket.ESPNcricinfo revealed that the ECB were exploring options to ease Flower’s workload and that the ODI series against India in January was a potential series where Flower could be rested, with Giles in the running for the job. This appointment confirms that intention, with Flower’s next engagement the Tests leg of England’s New Zealand tour in March.”We are all aware over the last five-and-a-half years since Andy’s been involved that we’ve enjoyed some fantastic successes,” Morris said. “Over that period Andy has missed a handful of days. We all know how busy the schedule is. Indeed, he suggested involvement in all three formats of the game might only be sustainable for single men or those with grown-up families.”With young families it is very hard to get that work-life balance right,” Flower said. “If you were single or had a grown up family then I think it would be more possible to do all three forms of the game.”We have talked about what the most effective coaching structure for our national side is and we’re still not sure. But we believe that this might be a more efficient use of our resources. With unlimited resources and unlimited high-quality coaching staff, you might even have two separate coaching teams.”There is a bit of unfinished business. But I hope to see Ashley Giles and Alastair Cook hoisting a trophy above their heads at some stage. I will be watching but not there on a day to day level. It is a little sad to be stepping away to be honest. But I will certainly gain in other areas of my life. I don’t believe this decision will bring an erosion of my authority or influence.”Both Flower and Morris dismissed the suggestion that the appointment of a second senior coach would create confusion or undermine Flower’s position. Morris insisted that, such was their confidence in Giles as a man and a coach, there had been no need to consider any other candidates.”I don’t see it as an erosion of Andy’s power,” Morris said. “Ultimately he is accountable for playing strategy of all three formats of the game. He remains a selector and also has responsibility for the day to day planning. He will also see some young players he wouldn’t have seen before in the county scene.”We know Ashley Giles as a person and we know him as a coach. He has been through our coaching programme over the last four years and he has done a terrific job with Warwickshire.”Flower dismissed the suggestion that he was benefitting from just the sort of rest period denied to Kevin Pietersen. The difference, Flower contended , was that Pietersen had requested that he was omitted from the ODI squad while continuing in the T20 team, while the policy of the ECB remained that players were available either for all limited-overs cricket or none of it.”He wanted to retire from 50 overs cricket and play T20 cricket,” Flower said. “That is not in line with ECB policy. So the situations are not directly comparable.”

Pelé encerrou carreira há mais de 40 anos, mas acaba de fazer um gol de placa. Com presença confirmada e em parceria com o Resende Futebol Clube, o Rei inaugura, no próximo dia 11, o Centro de Excelência Pelé Academia de Futebol, no interior do Estado do Rio de Janeiro.

O projeto tem como objetivo a descoberta, a preparação e o desenvolvimento de atletas entre 7 e 13 anos para o futsal, e de 14 anos a 20 anos para o futebol de campo, com as duas últimas categorias já podendo atuar em competições oficiais da federação carioca.

O Centro de Treinamento contará com seis campos de futebol, sendo um deles de grama sintética e um outro exclusivo para treinamento de goleiros. Além disso, academia, vestiário completo, dormitórios, cozinha industrial, mini-auditório e sala de recreação.

A seleção dos atletas será contínua durante o ano inteiro, e os mesmos terão acesso, além do esporte, ao estudo. Parcerias com universidades internacionais serão feitas para que exista a possibilidade de intercâmbio.

Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal both failed in this innings, but the chase was relatively easy and remained under control. Umar Gul, the Leopards captain, was expensive as he was taken for 38 runs off his three-over spell.
