ويتولى مهمة الإدارة الفنية لمنتخب سوريا، مدرب منتخب مصر الأسبق هيكتور كوبر، ويعاونه محمود فايز، وعصام الحضري مدربًا لحراس المرمى.

ويجري منتخب سوريا استعداداته تمهيدًا للمشاركة في نهائيات كأس آسيا المقرر انطلاقها في قطر مطلع العام المقبل.

ويتواجد منتخب سوريا في المجموعة الثانية إلى جوار منتخبات أوزبكستان وأستراليا والهند.

تحدث تشافي هيرنانديز، المدير الفني لفريق برشلونة، عن الإصابات قبل مواجهة ريال بيتيس المرتقبة غدًا في بطولة الدوري الإسباني.

وواصل: “بالنسبة لـ جوندوجان نعلم أنه تعرض لضربة في الظهر، بالأمس شارك في جزء من التدريبات، دعونا نرى اليوم، غدًا سنقرر، من حيث المبدأ سيكون متاحًا”.

وأردف: “بالنسبة لـ رونالد أراوخو، هو في حالة جيدة جدًا، هذا الأسبوع إذا سار الأمر بشكل جيد، سيكون قد تعافى كليًا”.

وعن فيران توريس وتطور أدائه هذا الموسم، قال: “أستطيع أن أقول لك، لقد أخبرته بالأمس، إنه يتمتع بالكثير من المزايا، لقد سخروا منه في السابق، وأنه لم يكن جيدًا، وانظروا إلى ما فعله، إنه مثال، لديه قدرات عظيمة، ويمتلك القوة الذهنية، ونحن نثق به، هو يستحق ذلك، إنه قدوة ومثال”.

وتحدث تشافي كذلك عن المغربي عبد الصمد الزلزولي الذي انضم إلى ريال بيتيس في آخر يوم من الميركاتو الصيفي، حيث قال: “لدينا خيار إعادة الشراء، لم نخسره بالكامل، لقد فقدناه بسبب قراره الشخصي، لقد أراد أن يلعب كل مباراة وكل دقيقة، ولا يمكننا ضمان ذلك، لا أعلم ما إذا كان سيتحقق له ذلك مع فريقه الجديد، أتمنى له الأفضل”.

The supplementary responsibilities the role brings can often deflect away from a foremost discipline but for Gary Wilson, the recently appointed Surrey skipper, his term in office may just be the making of him.His designation as Graeme Smith’s successor – despite little or no experience furnishing his CV – wasn’t a judgement made by the Surrey management without reason and for all their riches and resources, such a move highlighted their long-term vision. For those still suspecting if he is the right man for the job, those doubts must surely be fading with every passing week.What first began as a rebuilding mission late on Sunday, after Surrey has slipped to 243 for 7, shifted to a destructive assault that reaffirmed the hosts’ position of supremacy against lowly Leicestershire. A career best unbeaten 160 exhibited all the traits that has seen his standing at The Oval rise steadily over the past few seasons.Once deployed as a utility player to fill whatever gaps needed filling – largely down to Surrey’s large resource pool rather than Wilson’s inability – he no longer lives a nomadic existence: his position is now as firmly bolted down as anyway.In the past few seasons, the Surrey captaincy has been a rather onerous task but Wilson’s initiation has gone swimmingly. The key dismissal of Angus Robson – brother of Sam – an over before stumps may just be the final nail in the visitors’ coffin and end their plucky resistance. He had managed to score 75 of his side’s 125 when Matthew Dunn, bustling in from the Vauxhall End, managed to sneak one under the bat and strike Robson’s back pad.His cameo was a rare glimpse of light among another day of gloom for Leicestershire. Having showed admirable resolve to make inroads on the first afternoon, they were unable to muster the energy or faculty to maintain their stranglehold. Wilson, solid in defence and pugnacious in attack, together with Tremlett, continued where they had left off the previous evening as they tormented the visitors with a destructive and thoroughly disheartening stand.Both resuming on 44, the pair played corresponding innings, taking it in turns to inflict blow after blow, as they heaped more punishment on Leicestershire’s prostrate attack.Once Tremlett had passed fifty and his previous career-best tally of 64 in the process, he assumed the role of battering ram with an element of panache. That a fast-bowler was made look so immovable with the bat is a damning appraisal of Leicestershire’s bowlers. Yet, attempting to swat his twelfth boundary, Tremlett could only pick out Nathan Buck at fine leg off Ben Raine, who managed get one to lift on Tremlett: no mean feat given his 6ft 7in frame.The stage was set for Wilson though as he accelerated through the gears and despite a brief lull as he approached three figures, the respite for Leicestershire, whose fielders were run ragged, was all too brief. Wilson is particularly strong square of the wicket and carries a weighty punch demonstrated with a couple of meaty blows into the pavilion off the part-time spin of Dan Redfern.The nature in which Wilson managed to time his onslaught around protecting No. 11 Jade Dernbach spoke volumes of his cricketing brain. But Dernbach was no passenger. He tucked into some tasty offerings himself and was unbeaten on 23 when Leicestershire were put out of their misery. All variables, however, would suggest they may be in for some more hardship before this game ends.

Peter Sainsbury, the Hampshire allrounder who has died aged 80, was one of the finest players never to have played for England, in the estimation of John Arlott. Sainsbury is the only player in Hampshire’s history to win two County Championship titles. His 22-year playing career coincided with the club’s most prosperous period and he was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1974.Arlott named Sainsbury in the England XI that never was and Sir Ian Botham was the first to pay tribute to him, tweeting: “Very sad news…Peter Sainsbury passed away last night! A great servant to Hampshire!” before posting a picture of himself alongside Sainsbury after Botham had his teeth knocked out by Andy Roberts.Only two players – Phil Mead and Alec Kennedy – have played more than his 618 first-class games for Hampshire and as a left-arm slow bowler he took 1316 wickets at 24.14 apiece. By his own admission, the lack of turn he generated contributed to being continually overlooked by England.Although he used flight expertly, he faced stiff competition from Tony Lock, Fred Titmus, Ray Illingworth and Derek Underwood all ahead of him in the pecking order and Sainsbury was limited to twelfth man duties, largely down to his brilliance in the field – as one of the best short legs of his, or any other, era, he held 617 catches.Peter James Sainsbury was born on June 13, 1934, just a couple of miles outside Southampton. Sainsbury’s talents were conspicuous from an early age as he shone under the tutelage of Walter Prevett, appearing for Southampton schools, Hampshire schools and as twelfth man for the South during his time at Bitterne Park Secondary Modern.It wasn’t long before Salisbury broke into the Hampshire side and during his first full season in 1955, he took 102 wickets and scored 586 runs. His endeavors with the bat usually came down the order, typically batting at No. 6, and gave the side balance and solidity. He passed 1000 runs in a season six times and in 1971, he came within fifty runs of the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets.Although naturally a left-hander, he batted right-handed, and a prerequisite of his batting was a sound defence which provided the springboard for a variety of “nudges, squirts, pushes, dabs and flicks”, as described by Wisden. His tenacity and sense of responsibility often saw him open the batting when required but was often the stable presence in the middle-order when he shored up many a collapse.Having been awarded his county cap after his first season, Sainsbury toured Pakistan with the MCC A team but by his own admission his dismissal of Len Hutton, not once but twice, on his 21st birthday was one of the highlights of an illustrious career. As one-day cricket developed, Sainsbury was one of the first spinners to adapt to the limited-overs format and in 1965 he became the first player to take seven wickets in the Gillette Cup.As well as a playing career which spanned two decades, Salisbury moved into coaching and he guided Hampshire to Championship titles in 1978 and again in 1986 as well as being in charge of their first Lord’s final in 1988.Hampshire announced they will wear black armbands during their Championship game against Essex starting on Sunday.

Trent Bridge, the venue for the first Test, is rightly being considered India’s biggest test, but the challenge lies in the quality of the bowling and overhead conditions, according to Steve Birks, the man in charge of the pitch. With four days to go, the pitch does not look green or menacing from a distance. However, if you look at it up close, it is covered with eight to nine millimetres of straw-coloured grass, which is not live but can provide seamers assistance.”The grass is dry, and we have been pushing it in every day,” Birks said. “We have been watering around the edges. We don’t want teams bowled out for 180.”Stuart Broad’s grumblings about the pitches provided for the Sri Lanka series have had no impact on the preparation of this surface, Birks said. “You can’t try to keep too many people happy,” Birks said. “Bowlers want one thing. Batsmen want one thing. If you can just do your best, it is up to them to perform.”One of Broad’s concerns – the poor carry at Lord’s and Headingley – is not expected to resurface. “We are trying to get a bit of carry,” Birks said, knocking the surface to demonstrate how hard it is underneath the brown grass. “If we get carry we are happy. There should be good carry. Four days to go, it is hard. Really hard.”Coming to their backyard, James Anderson and Broad should not need to worry too much: they take wickets in their sleep at Trent Bridge. Anderson has struck 49 times for 17 runs apiece, and Broad has 21 wickets at 23.The length of the grass on the pitch is crucial. In 2011, Birks was quoted in magazine as saying: “When we won the Championship, we were cutting the wickets at 7mm and last year we flattened them out a bit more at 5mm. I don’t want to pre-empt what Mick Newell [the Nottinghamshire coach] has to say but I’ve a feeling we might be changing that next season.”How much shorter are we going to go from the current length? “We have got 8mm at the moment,” Birks said. “Monday-Tuesday, we will trim it to down to maybe 6, and then have a look at that [and see] if we need to go lower. Looking dry. Nice straw-coloured look to it.”That sounds somewhere between angel and monster.Birks might say he does not want teams getting bowled out for 180, but that has been the general trend at Trent Bridge. When India came here in 2011, both first innings ended pretty early before the pitch settled down. The same happened in the thrilling Ashes Test last year, when England’s first innings lasted 59 overs, and Australia’s 65. And yet we had a match that was alive on the final afternoon. In the last first-class match at Trent Bridge, Somerset were bowled out for 168 on the first day, but the next two innings were 461 and 402.All signs point to putting teams in, but Birks thinks it looks like a bat-first pitch. “Looking at the surface, it has looked like a decent bat-first wicket,” he said, “but then we have bowled first some days and we have got teams out easy. It all depends on the bowlers and the overhead conditions.”The week before the Test has been dry, allowing smooth preparation, but the next few days have rain forecast. It rained all of Friday night too, which could help the pitch retain some moisture and even provide a tinge of green.The flattening out of the surface in later stages of matches has been consistent with the changing nature of all the pitches in England. The new drainage system has made sure the moisture disappears much faster than before. Trent Bridge, though, has retained help for seamers. “We did struggle with it for the first two years but then most of us got used to it,” Birks said. “We try to leave a fraction more moisture in it. We water the ends a lot more, leading up to the game.”

O Botafogo tem novidade na escalação para o retorno do Campeonato Brasileiro. No treino desta quinta-feira, Marcinho apareceu na lateral direita como novo nome para o duelo contra o Cruzeiro, neste domingo, às 16h, no Mineirão, pela décima rodada da competição. Antes da pausa para a Copa América, o técnico Barroca utilizara Fernando para a função.

Apesar da novidade, por outro lado houve desfalque. O meia Cícero não deve aparecer como opção para a partida, pois não treinou com o elenco por conta de um desconforto na coxa.

Deste modo, a provável escalação do Alvinegro é: Gatito Fernández; Marcinho, Carli, Gabriel e Gilson; Bochecha, João Paulo e Alex Santana; Luiz Fernando, Erik e Diego Souza.

No treino do Botafogo também teve uma presença ilustre. A pedido de Barroca, Sebastião Lazaroni prestigiou as atividades. Ele é pai de Bruno Lazaroni, que é auxiliar técnico da comissão técnica permanente.

O Botafogo está na sétima posição do Brasileiro, com 15 pontos. O Cruzeiro está na 18ª colocação, com oito somados. Nesta sexta-feira, o Alvinegro faz seu último treino no Rio de Janeiro. No sábado à tarde, a delegação viaja para Belo Horizonte.
