Man United Could Sign £80m Revelation From PL Club

Manchester United will surely look to continue their rebuild of the squad over the summer transfer window and now a new update has emerged on their plans for the transfer window.

What's the latest on Moises Caicedo's future?

According to 90min, Manchester United retain their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion ace Moises Caicedo.

As per the report, Brighton will now listen to offers of around £80m for their talented midfielder this summer and a host of elite Premier League clubs will compete to secure his signature, including Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal alongside the Red Devils.

Who would Caicedo replace in the Man United team?

With Casemiro in the latter stages of his career at 31 years old, finding a worthy successor will be no easy task for Erik ten Hag as he continues to refresh and rebuild the Man United squad.

As a result, if an opportunity is presented to secure the services of Caicedo this summer, it would be unwise for the Red Devils to ignore it, as the Ecuadorian could not only be an incredible heir to the Man United superstar, but an ideal partner for Casemiro to work with to eventually pass the baton on to in the defensive spot.

When comparing the two players, they are similar, particularly in their defensive involvement with Caicedo having made 1.55 tackles and interceptions per 90 minutes compared to Casemiro's 1.50.

They also make a similar number of ball recoveries per 90 minutes (7.14 vs 8).

Caicedo's outstanding form in the Premier League has seen him earn a lot of praise over the season so far, with Jamie Redknapp full of compliments for the South American talent:

"He has been magnificent, he possesses all the attributes to play in every area, brilliant tackler.

"He’s progressive with his passing, a revelation and I’m sure a lot of clubs will be looking at him right now. He also has an eye for goal. Very, very impressed with this guy."

The Man United boss will surely be keen to build a squad that competes at the highest level and puts the club firmly back in the mix to dominant English football, so the signing of youthful prospects like Caicedo would certainly put the club on the path to success.

With that being said, the powerbrokers at Old Trafford will need to put in a lucrative offer to fend off their Premier League competitors for the signing of Caicedo, but if his recent form is anything to go by it would be absolutely worth it.

Tottenham Could Ditch Kane For Premier League Superstar

Tottenham Hotspur are a confusing club who manage to blur the lines between being part of England's elite without actually challenging for any silverware.

Their pursuit of such a feat, to cement them as part of that traditional top six, was likely the chief instigator behind the appointments of both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, both of whom failed in their pursuit.

Throughout all the turmoil suffered in north London of late, whether it be manager upheavals or personnel changes, there always remains one constant: Harry Kane scoring goals.

The England captain remains one of the Premier League's most dependable marksmen, breaking scoring records at every turn on his way to Alan Shearer's ultimate prize.

However, his is a career laden with world-class quality that, just like the Lilywhites themselves, lacks trophies.

Given that innate desire that he will definitely have, there is every chance that each season could be his last at the club with which he burst onto the scene.

With Manchester United continuing to be linked as each transfer window goes by, perhaps Daniel Levy could seek to jump the gun, cash in on his prized asset, and seek to invest in a brighter future where the team is less reliant on the magnificent exploits of one man.

Who could replace Harry Kane at Spurs?

Having scored 23 league goals this season despite all the struggles, most of what the 29-year-old does nowadays serves as no surprise to the everyday viewer of this division.

This marks the ninth consecutive season where the striker has hit 17 goals or more in the league, and having recently become England's leading scorer as well as Spurs', the £200k-per-week animal is just 54 shy of becoming the all-time top scorer in the Premier League too.

It begs the question: who could possibly replace him?

Perhaps Levy should cease searching for a like-for-like alternative, as one simply does not exist. Instead, he could focus his efforts on the newest generation of striker, who personifies the modern game with fine link-up play and the flexibility to adapt to any system that the new manager might employ.

Few exemplify these characteristics like Brighton and Hove Albion's Evan Ferguson, who has been one such name linked with a move to N17.

Although incredibly raw and enjoying what is only his breakout season, the Republic of Ireland international has mustered four league goals in just 12 appearances as well as a further four goals across cup competitions too.

The 18-year-old manages all this with a blistering turn of pace despite standing at 6 foot 2, and also the ability to drop in and help with the build-up. As such, when compared to other strikers across Europe, he sits in the top 5% for pass completion.

This mesmeric emergence has drawn understandable praise, with BBC pundit Danny Murphy telling Match of the Day after Ferguson's brace against Grimsby Town: "This kid is a superstar, honestly. He’s got great feet, technical ability. He’s calm, powerful and plays the role really well. You don’t see him out wide, he stays central and is always a target.

“I can’t see a weakness in his game at the moment. For 18 years old, the maturity he shows in his game is phenomenal."

Few could possibly seek to replace Kane and the legacy he will leave, but in this teenage sensation, there is a striker who could star in the role for almost as many years as his potential predecessor has done.

£250kp/w Man United ace slammed for post-match incident

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been slammed after walking straight down the tunnel on Sunday as his teammates offered their appreciation to the travelling fans.

Will United still finish in the top four?

It was a dismal display at St. James' Park from Erik ten Hag's side who comfortably beaten by Newcastle United and that was acknowledged by the Dutch manager: “Today the best team won, I hate to say it,” he said after the defeat.

The loss on Tyneside saw Eddie Howe's men climb above the Red Devils in the table and up to third spot with Tottenham Hotspur playing their game on Monday night.

United still have games in hand over the north London club so the defeat has not put too much of a dent in their hopes, however, it was the manner of the defeat which will hurt most.

And for the travelling fans, the least they will expect is to be thanked by the players on the back of such a poor display away from home.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Alex Crook learned the £250k-per-week Martial was a player to ignore the fans as he headed for the dressing room which enraged the pundit:

(0:35) "That is shocking from the Manchester United players. If they're not wanting to salute the away fans, Martial in particular, where have you been all season, fella? You make one appearance and think you can skulk off down the tunnel. Unbelievable!"

Does Martial have a future at Old Trafford?

The Frenchman's big-money arrival from Monaco has failed to really match the expectations set on him, however, this is something which is unlikely to go down well among the fans.

Martial now has just over one-year remaining on his current deal with the Red Devils and it could certainly be envisaged that a potential move could be lying ahead in the summer.

Having made 10 appearances this season in the Premier League, Martial has returned three goals and two assists (via Transfermarkt).

Considering he has only played 489 minutes of league action, this is actually not too shabby of a return, however, it is evident he is not in the immediate plans of Ten Hag.

Anthony Martial celebrates after scoring against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup for Manchester United.

It is apparent why Martial will have frustrations over his lack of game time and on the back of a dreadful display from all in a red shirt.

He came on with around half an hour remaining, but he failed to provide much of an impact having only recorded 16 touches of the ball (via SofaScore).

But failing to acknowledge the travelling fans will certainly fail to endear the Frenchman with the United faithful ahead of what could be a pivotal summer in his career.

West Ham set for Australia preseason tour in Perth

Insider ExWHUemployee has reported that West Ham United will be based in Perth when they likely travel to Australia for their pre-season tour next summer.

What’s the latest on West Ham and their Australia pre-season tour?

Right now, things aren't looking to great for the Hammers. While they continue to advance with promise in the Europa Conference League, things look somewhat bleak domestically.

Having fallen out of both the League and FA Cup, David Moyes and co are left with one primary focus: avoid being relegated from the Premier League. Worryingly, this looks like a complicated task. Indeed, after 26 games, West Ham have just 24 points and currently sit inside the bottom three.

While all that is going on, however, plans are potentially being made for next season already. For instance, there has been talk about the club going on a foreign tour in the summer.

In an update on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex revealed that this was yet to officially be confirmed but it sounds as though Perth may well be the main location if the squad do travel to the other side of the globe.

He said: "This isn't confirmed, and I've been asking repeatedly to the club, and I keep being told nothing is confirmed yet. And our league status is also important to whether things will be confirmed.

"But there's a lot of rumours that – obviously, I was the person that broke that West Ham are going to be on tour in Australia this summer – but it appears that it's going to be Perth that is the chosen location.

"As I said, it's not been confirmed by the club, but a number of people in Perth who claim to have sources believe that it is going to be happening there, which will be interesting."

Why would West Ham go to Australia?

Ex reported the idea of the club going to on a foreign tour at the end of the season in January. Interestingly enough, at the time, he noted that Moyes isn't a fan of such trips, due to concerns over fatigue from the travelling.

However, of course, the 59-year-old may no longer be in charge after this season as he has come under great scrutiny this season from his own fanbase due to the club's poor form.

Still, if he gets sacked, it may well be because West Ham have been relegated. In which case, as Ex alludes to, the Irons may not be able or willing to go on such an extravagant pre-season tour.

The Premier League side were actually set to travel to Australia ahead of the 2020/21 season but this was postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Clearly then, the visit has been in the post for some time but it still remains unclear if the trip will ever happen.

Tottenham: Glenn Hoddle praises much-improved Harry Kane

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has heaped praise on star striker Harry Kane for drastically improving a major part of his game.

The Lowdown: Kane contract saga…

The 29-year-old has been one of the main talking points of Spurs in recent times, not just for his sublime form, but also because he has entered the final 17 months of his contract.

Expiring in 2024, Kane can leave the Premier League side for free at the end of next season, putting pressure on chairman Daniel Levy and ENIC to either agree renewed terms or contemplate selling.

The forward continues to attract interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Man United as a result.

The Latest: Hoddle praises Kane…

Hoddle, speaking to 90min, has now claimed that Kane’s coveted signature could be a result of both his stellar quality and improvement in one aspect of his play.

He said:

“He’s been amazing. He’s turned into an amazing footballer and not just for his goalscoring and beating Jimmy Greaves’ wonderful record, but it’s the assists that he’s made on his way and his all-round game has come on so much.

“Harry didn’t come in at 18 as a wonderkid, he had to go out on loan to some clubs – some of them it worked, and some it didn’t work – but what that does, is that it shows kids a great example of someone who kept fighting and kept believing in himself.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-4/” title=”Tottenham latest news” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/cropped-tottenham-fans.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Phenomenon…

We believe, if Kane decides to stay in England, it is only a matter of time before the Spurs star breaks Alan Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record.

Antonio Conte’s mainstay has already bagged a sensational return of 17 goals in 23 league starts this season, all while standing out as Spurs’ best-performer by average match rating (WhoScored).

Kane is also, by some distance, Spurs’ biggest threat all-round – averaging more attempts at goal per 90 and making Tottenham’s joint-most key passes in the final third (WhoScored).

It’s arguable any price tag wouldn’t justify parting company with the Three Lions striker and Levy must do anything within his power to keep hold of Kane.

Liverpool keen on ‘complete’ centre-back signing

Liverpool are interested in the signing of Sporting CP centre-back Goncalo Inacio this summer, a new transfer report claims.

The Lowdown: Centre-back on the agenda

While much of the current talk is about the Reds’ midfield, in terms of signings in the summer transfer window, a new central defender could also come in.

Jurgen Klopp may feel that that area of the pitch also needs freshening up, especially with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez’s performances proving patchy recently and the former being tipped to leave with just one year left on his deal.

Now, a new centre-back target has emerged, as Liverpool prepare for what is hopefully a big summer ahead.

The Latest: Reds scouts watch Inacio

According to Correio da Manha, the Reds sent club officials to watch Inacio in action for Sporting in Primeira Liga action against Porto last weekend.

The 21-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2026, is also thought to be wanted by Newcastle United.

The Verdict: Long-term acquisition?

A young centre-back with big promise feels like the best option for Liverpool this summer, considering Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk should continue to be the first-choice pairing for the foreseeable future.

[freshpress-quiz id=“419074″]

Inacio has been hailed as a ‘complete CB’ in his position by football talent scout Jacek Kulig and he enjoyed an 87.5% pass completion across six starts in the Champions League this season, showing composure on the big stage.

Inacio also averaged 3.5 clearances per game in Europe’s biggest club competition and he tasted title glory with Sporting back in 2020/21, so knows what it takes to win silverware.

At 21, he could come in as the fourth-choice centre-back, should Matip or Gomez move on, eventually maturing into a regular alongside Konate over time.

Celtic: Ange Postecoglou to Leeds verdict

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou will want to ‘finish the job’ in the Scottish Premiership amid exit links, according to BBC pundit and commentator Chris Sutton.

The Lowdown: Leeds targeting Postecoglou

Leeds United sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday following a poor start to the season, and the Hoops boss is reportedly on the shortlist of favourites to take over, alongside the likes of West Brom coach Carlos Corberan.

This isn’t the first time the Australian has been linked with a move to the Premier League after Brighton and Leicester City were both chasing him in 2022, though he was quick to dismiss any exit rumours.

Now, despite being targeted for a third time, the chances of him turning down the Elland Road vacancy are high according to one former Bhoys legend in particular…

The Latest: Sutton shares what he knows

Speaking to the Daily Record, Sutton admitted that Postecoglou will, one day, transition to the Premier League, but suggested that he remains keen to see out his long-term project at Celtic:

“I have no doubt Postecoglou will manage in the Premier League. But I don’t think the time is now. Leeds are a big club and they have a lot of potential, even though they are in a difficult position right now.

“It might be a different proposition if the question came in the summer. But I just think Postecoglou will be mindful of what happened when Rodgers left.

“It left a bad taste in the mouths of supporters who had idolised him for two and a half years. There was a furious response.

“There was a feeling he left them in the lurch and he still hasn’t been forgiven in the eyes of a lot of supporters. But from what I get from Postecoglou’s comments he would want to finish the job he started.

“There’s a title to be retained, the Viaplay Cup Final around the corner and the Scottish Cup on the line as well. There’s also the Champions League again and that is something I think will be a big motivating factor for him.”

The Verdict: New contract deserved

Postecoglou will be out of contract at Celtic at the end of the season, but considering how much he’s transformed the team, the hierarchy should offer him a new deal.

The Greece-born manager has won 69, drawn ten and lost just 16 of his second consecutive Premiership title.

Ange also led his side to the League Cup trophy in 2021/22, and there’s no doubt that the Hoops will enjoy many more years of success should the boss remain at the helm.

West Ham make transfer bids for targets

Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United have now placed multiple bids for transfer targets in France, Spain and Italy.

What’s the word?

With the winter market now open, it looks as though David Moyes is looking to add some new depth to this ranks as his team looks to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

Oddly, enough before Chelsea splashed out on the stunning £88.5m transfer fee to land Mykhailo Mudryk, the Blues tried to pick up West Ham forward Michail Antonio on a cheap loan.

That deal was rejected but it still sounds as though his future could be in doubt as the Premier League side potentially look to find an upgrade elsewhere in Europe this January.

Indeed, in a post shared on The West Ham Way’s Patreon page, Ex wrote: “The source confirmed that there are bids in for other players and some of these are also said to be players in foreign leagues in France, Spain and Italy. We will be looking to get concrete evidence of who these bids are for in time for the show tomorrow (Another should be Danjuma which we exclusively revealed last week, the Dutch attacker/winger).

“It is hoped that these new signings can bring a turn in fortunes and it will be interesting to see if they are brought in what the future holds for Antonio.”

New players arriving?

One of these players bid for looks certain to be Lorient and Nigeria striker Terem Moffi. Indeed, it was widely been reported that West Ham have made a £25m bid for the forward – as confirmed by Ex in the same post.

With that in mind, Moyes may well have lost faith in Antonio and when you look at his goalscoring stats it’s not that hard to see why the club may feel as though there is room for improvement.

Indeed, the Iron has netted just five times despite featuring in 25 matches so far this season. In comparison, Moffi has scored 12 goals in 18 games. Danjuma could also be an exciting target too, as he scored 16 goals last term as Villarreal made the Champions League semifinals.

And so, while that Chelsea loan bid was rejected, the Hammers may well be waiting until they can bring someone in first before then looking to offload Antonio. With Wolves also said to be interested, it looks as though the forward could be on this move this winter.

Chelsea: Thuram could be Aubayemang upgrade

The January transfer window is now open for business and Graham Potter has already bolstered his Chelsea squad by signing Benoit Badiashile from AS Monaco.

As it stands, the Blues are 10th in the Premier League table and will be looking to push up to challenge for the European spots in the second half of the campaign.

11 top-flight teams have scored more goals than Potter’s side, who have found the back of the net 20 times in 17 outings, and adding a goalscorer to the squad could be key to Chelsea’s hopes in the coming months.

One player who could solve their issues at the top end of the pitch is Borussia Monchengladbach centre-forward Marcus Thuram, who has been on fire in the Bundesliga this season.

Journalist Simon Phillips has revealed that the striker is one of the club’s top targets for the month and that he is a realistic signing for the Blues.

The reporter told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s made his way up towards the top of the forward shortlist for this window, and he presents an opportunity for Chelsea to land a top forward for a very low fee, with his contract up in the summer. I’ve been told he is attainable this month.”

The attacker is reportedly available for a fee of up to £15m, with his contract at Gladbach being set to expire at the end of the season, and Potter can land a big upgrade on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by securing his signature.

In the Premier League this term, the Gabon international has scored once in nine appearances and averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.58 for the Blues.

His lack of production in the final third has hurt Chelsea badly, as shown by their aforementioned goalscoring statistics in comparison to the rest of the league, and Thuram could take his place in the side if he arrives at Stamford Bridge this month.

The Gladbach striker, who has been hailed as “clinical” by journalist Raj Chohan, was once lauded as a “monster” by Herve Renard, has plundered 10 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances, whilst also delivering three assists.

Thuram also produced two assists in five substitute appearances for France at the World Cup and his quality at the top end of the pitch could give Chelsea a huge lift during the second half of the season.

His impressive goalscoring for the German side shows that he has the potential to offer far more than what Aubameyang has delivered for Potter to date, which is why the club must get a deal over the line for the Frenchman.
