Man Utd chiefs believe they’re about to have another £50m+ bid accepted

Manchester United are set to submit a new big-money offer for a "magnificent" long term target this summer, according to an exciting transfer update.

Man Utd transfer news

It is a matter of time until the Red Devils confirm the signings of Bayern Munich pair Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, with the defensive duo in the process of completing their respective moves from the Bundesliga giants. It has been a promising summer at Old Trafford, with Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee among those to have also come in, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe's spending may not be done there.

One recent report has claimed that United are considering making a move for highly-rated young Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, with a transfer worth as much as £50m mooted. The Republic of Ireland international is still just 19 years of age, but has been touted to become a superstar over time.

Brighton strikerEvan Ferguson.

Fenerbahce and Turkey left-back Ferdi Kadioglu has also been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, having caught the eye with his performances for his country at Euro 2024. He also averaged 3.6 tackles and two clearances per game at the tournament, enhancing his reputation in the process, and he could be viewed as a long-term replacement for the injury-prone Luke Shaw.

A move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong also isn't seemingly out of the question, despite United failing in their efforts to sign him so far, bidding far lower than the Catalan giants are willing to accept for his services.

Man Utd to submit bid for "magnificent" player

According to a new report from Football Insider, Manchester United have now "re-opened talks" to sign Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer window, as they look to snap him up alongside De Ligt.

Red Devils chiefs are about to submit a new bid of £60m this week and they believe the offer will be accepted by the Blues, even though their previous efforts have been unsuccessful.

Signing Branthwaite as well as De Ligt and Yoro really would represent a superb summer of spending at the heart of Erik ten Hag's defence, as they look to make huge improvements in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has enjoyed such a meteoric rise at Everton over the past 12 months or so, and he looks like a potential regular starter for England in the coming years.

Branthwaite's quality hasn't gone unnoticed by Premier League legend Alan Shearer, who has hailed him as "magnificent", while Jamie Carragher has also heaped praise on him: "Branthwaite has been outstanding. I think this lad is pretty special. He's a big part of why Everton in my eyes have a good chance of staying up, him and his partnership with [James] Tarkowski."

His finishing has been described as “phenomenal”.

It would arguably be a surprise to see Branthwaite come in now, considering the money already spent on new defenders by United this summer, but few supporters will be against his signing, given his long-term promise.

RESPOSTA DO FLORESTA!

QUASE!

A intensidade continuou, e o Rubro-Negro quase ampliou a vantagem. Contudo, a arbitragem marcou impedimento.

Parkinson told reporters: "Callum was excellent. He put in a really good performance. Efeito Evaristo Piza?

CA investigates Sydney Sixers' playing XI 'administrative error'

WBBL technical committee had not approved Hayley Silver-Holmes’ return to squad but she was listed in starting XI

ESPNcricinfo staff21-Nov-2020Cricket Australia are investigating the Sydney Sixers after they included Hayley Silver-Holmes in their playing XI to face the Melbourne Renegades at North Sydney Oval on Saturday without the pace bowler being part of their 15-member squad.Silver-Holmes had been recovering from a foot injury over the previous two weeks and had been replaced in the squad by Alisha Bates. Having recovered to play Saturday’s match against the Renegades, she was listed in the starting XI, but her return to the squad had not yet been approved by the tournament’s technical committee. The “administrative error”, which the Sixers alerted officials to themselves, was only spotted shortly before she was due to take the field for the second innings and she was withdrawn with Maddy Darke acting as a substitute fielder. Silver-Holmes had not batted during the Sixers’ innings, so she had not taken any active part in the game.”The rebel WBBL is aware of an administrative error pertaining to player selection in the Sydney Sixers-Melbourne Renegades match on Saturday,” a Cricket Australia statement said.”The Sixers self-reported an issue relating to Hayley Silver-Holmes’ paperwork shortly after the Sixers-Renegades game had commenced. Silver-Holmes did not bat nor take the field for the Renegades’ run-chase. The rebel WBBL will provide an update on the matter in due course.”It meant the Sixers were a bowler short as they failed to defend 166 and although captain Ellyse Perry was still able to call on seven others, they were not able to stop Lizelle Lee and Courtney Webb steering a fine chase. The defeat left the Sixers with only a slim chance of making the semi-finals with one match left on Sunday and needing the Sydney Thunder or the Perth Scorchers to lose, then having to beat the table-topping Melbourne Stars by a big margin to improve their net run-rate.

Twine signs & PL loanee in: Chris Davies’ dream lineup at Birmingham

Birmingham City won't want to overstay their welcome in League One, aiming to immediately bounce back to the Championship after a disastrous relegation, with a new boss finally at the helm.

It's been well documented how many managers the Blues fire through, appointing and then discarding in quick succession, but the owners of the West Midlands club will hope they've found their long-term man for the dug-out in Chris Davies, who walked away from the luxuries of being assistant at Tottenham Hotspur to become their new manager.

With the 4-2-3-1 formation the Blues operated with at the back-end of the season looking like it could be Davies' preferred set-up too, as Spurs used this formation for large spells of last campaign, there might well not be too much tweaking going on in terms of that.

Yet, there will no doubt be a number of new players on the agenda of the 39-year-old to try and bring into the St. Andrew's environment, to really stamp his authority onto his new team, after only ever being a right-hand man to someone else throughout his career on the sidelines to date.

So, just what could Davies' ideal lineup look like for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign? Well, Davies could flex his north London connections and even land a coup swoop from the Championship this summer…

1 GK – John Ruddy

Although rumours are beginning to circulate that Birmingham are in the market for a new goalkeeper, with Marko Marosi on the potential Blues shopping list as a new shot-stopper, the Blues would be fools to not try and keep John Ruddy situated in the West Midlands for next season.

The managerial situation now being more steady could make the 37-year-old want to stay put, even with reported interest from the Championship for his services, knowing he could be a star in League One and an experienced head who could help promotion be instantly achieved.

The one-time England international helped himself to a respectable 11 clean sheets last season for his relegated side and has excelled in the third tier before with various different former employers, accumulating seven clean sheets from 25 contests at the level.

2 RB – Ethan Laird

Ethan Laird looks likely to be the starting right-back for the Blues next season, with talk of Cody Drameh coming back to St. Andrew's feeling like a far-off dream now, considering the Leeds United starlet has surprisingly been offered a new deal back at his parent club.

Davies won't mind having to rely on Laird down the right-hand side of his defence, however, with the 22-year-old a handful at points last season, having made 25 appearances and managing six clean sheets even with the backdrop of relegation looming large.

3 CB – Alfie Dorrington

The first new addition to the League One side's ranks could be Alfie Dorrington, with Football Insider revealing recently that the young Tottenham centre-back would be offered out to EFL sides this coming campaign on loan, to enable the 19-year-old to begin to cut his teeth in the men's game.

Dorrington will be familiar to Davies, owing to their connections at Spurs, and Davies will want to add him to his roster, having been impressed presumably by him in U21s action, where he made 19 appearances last campaign.

The highly-rated teenager would also shore up the Blues at the back, who leaked 65 goals on the way to relegation being confirmed.

4 CB – Dion Sanderson

Dion Sanderson will enter into the lowly division next season eager to be one of many Blues players that get Birmingham straight back up to the Championship, having performed well in patches last campaign, despite League One football eventually slapping the club in the face.

Amassing ten clean sheets from the centre-back spots, the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers man was also tenacious and lively with 3.4 ball recoveries per game averaged.

Playing at the level before on loan with Sunderland, the 24-year-old could be a great asset for Davies to rely on.

5 LB – Lee Buchanan

Making up the final bit of the defence is another returning member of last campaign's squad in the form of Lee Buchanan, who should stay put at left-back under new management.

The ex-Werder Bremen man should be able to thrive even more dropping down a level, having slotted in well after joining from Germany in 2023, with 32 appearances under his belt in the Championship.

6 CDM – Krystian Bielik

Birmingham City loan midfielderKrystian Bielik.

Played more as a centre-back towards the end of last campaign, Krystian Bielik could well be more used more as a holding midfielder in this system under Davies, especially if Dorrington walks in through the door.

The former Arsenal youth product could have suitors interested in him from the league above, but the relegated outfit will have their fingers crossed he stays put in the West Midlands, even if a bidding war becomes a reality.

7 CDM – Marc Leonard

Birmingham will be on the look-out for new central midfielders regardless if Bielik does stay, with Jordan James looking likely to be heading off to pastures new this off-season.

The Blues could well try to flex their giant status in their new division by attracting Marc Leonard to return to League One, with the midfielder – who can play as a holding option or in a more attack-minded role – performing exceptionally well last campaign for Northampton Town in the league.

The current Brighton and Hove Albion man dazzled for the Cobblers, picking up five goals and six assists for John Brady's men, and would be a fantastic permanent capture by Davies' men if pulled off.

8 LM – Siriki Dembele

Siriki Dembele has also set League One alight across his career to date, much like Leonard, amassing an impressive 48 goal contributions from 105 games slogging it in the league.

The Birmingham winger will look to get one over on his former employers Peterborough United dropping back down to the third-tier, who will likely compete with the Blues near the top of the division.

9 CAM – Alex Pritchard

Alex Pritchard's experience and nous could prove to be key in attempting an immediate return to the Championship too, with the 31-year-old helping himself to ten goals and 18 assists when playing in League One in the past.

A number of those assists came about when Sunderland finally leapt back up to the second tier, and the diminutive attacking midfielder will look to do the same in the here and now, with another fallen giant.

10 RM – Koji Miyoshi

Koji Miyoshi has never tasted League One football across his career to date, but the Japanese gem will no doubt terrorise third-tier defences, if his glowing Championship numbers are anything to go by.

The constant bright spark, who is now seen as a bold transfer gamble paying off from Royal Antwerp, picked up seven goals and six assists last season in all competitions, including a scrambled in effort on the final day which momentarily raised the spirits of the St. Andrew's faithful.

Craig Overton reminds England selectors of his talent with five-wicket haul for Somerset

Overlooked for Test and ODIs after attending England training camp, Overton bags 5 for 38

ECB Reporters Network02-Aug-2020 Somerset 296 (Davies 81, Brooks 72) and 131 for 2 (Hildreth 45*, Abell 44*) lead Glamorgan 131 (C Overton 5-38) by 296 runsCraig Overton gave the England selectors a reminder of his talent with some quality seam bowling on the second day of Somerset’s opening Bob Willis Trophy match against Glamorgan at Taunton.Overlooked for both the Test and one-day international squads after attending the England training camp at the Ageas Bowl, the 26-year-old all-rounder responded with 5 for 38 from 17 hostile overs.Four of Overton’s wickets came in a morning session that saw Glamorgan collapse from 15 without loss to 38 for 6 before being bowled out for 131 to concede a first innings deficit of 165.By the close of a day in which 13 overs were lost to rain, the home side had posted 131 for 2 in their second innings and led by 296.Overton, keen to add to his four Test appearances, opened up at the River End and was soon getting bounce and seam movement from a responsive pitch that had good pace in it.He proved too hot for Glamorgan to handle, sending back Charlie Hemphrey, Kiran Carlson, Chris Cooke and Dan Douthwaite, who could contribute only 16 runs between them. The accurate Josh Davey provided excellent support with 2 for 9 from his opening stint, accounting for Nick Selman and Billy Root.Graham Wagg and Kieran Bull provided some resistance either side of a 20-minute rain break, but at lunch the visitors were 71 for 6, still needing 26 runs to avoid the prospect of following on.It was 91 for 7 when Wagg, on 28, became Overton’s fifth victim, caught at first slip by James Hildreth, and 100 for 8 when Bull fell lbw to Jack Brooks for 23.Jamie Overton, bound for Surrey at the end of the season, then cleaned up the tail, having Marchant de Lange caught at mid-on off a top-edge and forcing Ruaidhri Smith to sky a catch to wicketkeeper Steve Davies.Smith batted with a runner after straining a hamstring on day one, but still managed to hit four fours and a six in his defiant 23 as the follow-on was avoided. The start of Somerset’s second innings was delayed by more rain and an early tea was taken. With the floodlights on, openers Tom Lammonby and Eddie Byrom took the total to 26 before Lammonby was caught behind down the leg-side off Wagg for 8.Byrom produced some sweetly timed shots in moving to 27, but with the total on 38 edged de Lange, who had replaced Michael Hogan at the River End, to wicketkeeper Cooke. The impressive de Lange was by far the sharpest of an attack lacking the injured Smith. He was missed as Tom Abell and Hildreth set about batting Glamorgan out of the game. Both batsmen were quick to capitalise on anything loose, driving with elegance and punching short deliveries crisply off the back foot.Off-spinner Bull was prepared to give the ball air and Hogan went past the outside edge a few times, but neither could break the increasingly confident partnership. By the close it was worth 93, with Abell unbeaten on 44 and Hildreth on 45.Craig Overton said: “The England selectors have told me to try and add a yard of pace to my bowling without letting it affect my accuracy and that is what I have been working on. The ball came out well today and I am pleased with the way things are going. I know what I have to do to get the regular Test Match place I want.”

Wrexham's rise through the ranks of English football has attracted plenty of controversy, but Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony doesn't begrudge the achievements of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since they arrived in Wales in 2021. The Red Dragons recorded 111 points in the National League in 2022-23 before gaining automatic promotion from League Two the following year, and MacAnthony believes they are simply passing through League One.

Reynolds and McElhenney have turned Wrexham into a global phenomenon that has become the envy of every lower level football club. The club have travelled to the United States for their past two pre-season tours, playing in front of their soaring American audience, and their 'Welcome to Wrexham' Netflix documentary reportedly rakes in £430,000 per episode. Wrexham's commercial deals have meant Reynolds and McElhenney haven't been required to invest much of their own money into the club, according to MacAnthony.

"They’ll be in the Championship and we could still be in League One because they can pay £7,000-£10,000 a week to players and we can't," MacAnthony said on . "That's the dynamic of the game. They bought in to the club with a plan in mind and they've managed to finance it by selling documentaries, advertising, and doing deals with skincare companies, drink companies etc, when they've had to put very little of their own money in. I saw their revenues last season and it was £15-£20 million a year as opposed to £5 million when they first came in. It's probably even more now. Anyone who can do that while also winning promotions deserves credit. They are not breaking any rules and we'd all do it if we could."
