Liverpool Make "Official Offer" For One Of "The Best" In Serie A Academy

Much has been made of Liverpool's midfield crisis this summer, especially as the transfer window edges closer and closer to its close. However, reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp could be about to welcome a player for the future, perhaps avoiding a replication of his current issues in years to come.

What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?

Failing to sign both Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, who both ended up at Chelsea, Liverpool were left in somewhat of a transfer no man's land before settling on welcoming Wataru Endo from Stuttgart.

Joining for a reported £16m, the Japan international became the third signing of Liverpool's window, following in the footsteps of fellow midfielders Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

After losing both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho earlier this summer to Saudi Arabia, though, Klopp could yet welcome one more reinforcement in the middle of the park,

The Reds have been linked with moves for Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch, Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, and even Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips before the window slams shut, but it remains to be soon if any of those reported options arrive at Anfield between now and deadline day.

Instead, Liverpool's focus has seemingly turned towards their academy. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, via Sport Witness, the Premier League giants have made an 'official offer' for Atalanta academy midfielder Samuel Inacio Pia, son of Pia – a Brazilian winger who featured for the likes of Napoli.

Who is Samuel Inacio Pia?

Just 15-years-old, Inacio is already "considered among the best", per TuttoMercatoWeb, in Atalanta's academy, scoring seven goals in 12 appearances for the U15s, before making a permanent move to the U16s.

So, although the midfielder wouldn't come in as a first-team option, he seems to have plenty of potential and could yet one day have a large part to play at Anfield. We've seen youngsters such as Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Stefan Bajcetic make the jump into the first-team, and even the starting line-up at Anfield, and Inacio could look at that trio as the perfect examples to follow.

Of course, the Brazilian could yet have a future at Atalanta, given how highly-rated he seems at the club, making the move to the U16s after impressing for the U15s. The coming season may be a crucial one in his development, as the Serie A club begin to consider whether he is ready to make further strides towards eventual first-team action.

Either way, Inacio looks to have the world at his feet this summer, and may even have a big decision to make.

He wouldn't solve Liverpool's midfield crisis, that much is obvious at just 15-years-old, but the Atalanta man would represent a smart piece of business for the Reds' future, especially if he realises his potential.

As the summer transfer window comes to a close, the Merseyside club could potentially be one of the busiest clubs in England's top flight. And, after missing out on a couple of targets this summer, Klopp may be keen to ensure that his side enjoy a strong, statement-making end to the transfer season.

They, and Inacio, are certainly ones to keep an eye on.

Newcastle Make Offer For "Incredible" £35m Machine

Newcastle United have earmarked an unlikely midfield candidate this summer in Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente, and manager Eddie Howe is hoping to bring him to the Premier League.

What's the latest on Marcos Llorente to Newcastle?

That's following revelations from Spanish sources claiming that Llorente has been deemed dispensable at the Wanda Metropolitano and is consequently attracting interest from a smorgasbord of outfits across the globe – including the Magpies.

The piece notes that the one-time Real Madrid man – who is also attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia – has 'received an offer' from those at St James' Park.

A possible fee has not been mentioned in the report, though last season Liverpool were vying for the 28-year-old's signature and a valuation of £35m had been touted.

Newcastle have already signed playmaker Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for £55m this summer but Howe could be seeking to continue the upgrades on the Tyneside team ahead of an exciting campaign fuelled by a return to the Champions League after two decades away.

How good is Marcos Llorente?

Newcastle's transfer strategy under Dan Ashworth, following the lucrative PIF club takeover in 2021, has been nothing short of exemplary.

Ashworth and Howe have combined to create a high-octane outfit with an embedded winning mentality, and it shows – the Magpies finished fourth in the Premier League last season and reached the Carabao Cup final, with the upward trajectory showing little sign of slowing.

Bruno Guimaraes and Tonali have been the standout midfield signings, the former playing a central role from the new-look team's genesis – joining from Lyon for £40m in January 2022.

Llorente would be an interesting investment, having scored 21 goals and supplied 23 assists from 150 outings for Atletico, while winning the 20/21 La Liga title.

marcos-llorente-premier-league-man-united-transfers

As per FBref, he ranks among the top 3% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for progressive carries and the top 5% for touches in the attacking penalty area per 90, which illustrates the impact he could have, surging into promising areas and using his aptitude as a midfield vehicle to emphatic effect.

He also completed 86% of his passes in LaLiga last term, averaging 1.4 key passes and 1.5 tackles per match, as per Sofascore, and it is little wonder talent scout Jacek Kulig has waxed lyrical and proclaimed: "Marcos Llorente has become an incredible footballer."

If Howe does decide to forge ahead with a transfer, he could replicate his successful former foray into Atletico's transfer pool when he procured right-back Kieran Trippier at the same time as Guimaraes, spearheading the remarkable ascent to success.

Trippier signed from the Spanish side for £12m and has since made 53 appearances, scoring two goals, supplying ten assists and earning praise for being a "revelation" at St. James's Park by talkSPORT's Simon Jordan

The 32-year-old ranks among the top 13% of positional peers for assists, the top 1% for shot-creating actions and the top 5% for progressive passes per 90, illustrating just how important he has been to the offensive fluidity of this Magpies team as they took flight under Howe's stewardship.

Llorente would enter the fray at a time when Newcastle have now established themselves, but the cementation of this newfound stature is paramount and, as such, his signing could prove to be another stroke of genius of the same branch, with Howe and Ashworth seemingly holding the formula for success on the transfer front.

Nottingham Forest Book Medical For Exciting £15m Signing

Nottingham Forest have scheduled imminent medical tests to finalise a summer deal for Manchester United star Anthony Elanga, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Who is Anthony Elanga?

Elanga is primarily a left-sided winger who has played his football at Old Trafford for the past eight years having graduated from the club’s academy to get promoted to the first-team fold back in January 2022, as per Transfermarkt, but there’s a chance that he could be on the move during the present window.

During the 2022/23 Premier League season, Erik Ten Hag only handed the 21-year-old five top-flight starts and he was reduced to coming off the bench as a substitute on 11 occasions, via WhoScored, showing how out of favour he is and highlighting that he needs to leave should he want to receive more regular game time elsewhere.

The Telegraph have reported that despite interest from West Ham United and Everton, the Sweden international turned down the chance to join David Moyes’ and Sean Dyche's sides and instead has opted to make the switch to Steve Cooper’s men, with The Athletic revealing that the Reds have had a £15m offer for the attacker accepted in M16.

So far this summer, the Midlands outfit have finalised a permanent deal for Chris Wood who initially joined on loan from Newcastle United and most recently they confirmed the arrival of defender Ola Aina from Torino, and the club’s third recruit could be about to walk through the doors at The City Ground.

Are Nottingham Forest signing Anthony Elanga?

Taking to Twitter, Romano revealed that Nottingham Forest have already agreed with Manchester United for a medical to take place for Elanga, whilst also providing an update on their pursuit of goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who Cooper is keen to secure following his successful loan spell last season.

“Nottingham Forest are insisting on Dean Henderson as negotiations are ongoing with Manchester United after loan bid sent earlier this week. Medical booked for Anthony Elanga after permanent deal agreed on Friday.”

Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga.

How many goals has Anthony Elanga scored?

Whilst Nottingham Forest will know that Elanga wasn’t given a fair chance to prove what he was capable of last season, the left-winger has racked up a total of 50 goal contributions (30 goals and 20 assists) in 124 appearances since the start of his career, so should he put pen to paper, he could be reborn under Cooper.

The CAA Stellar client can pose a huge threat in the final third having ranked in the 92nd percentile for most attacking touches in the opposition’s penalty area, whilst averaging 3.59 shot-creating actions per top-flight match last term was also impressive even though he was a bit-part player, as per FBRef.

The Malmo native, who has the versatility to operate in five different positions across the pitch, including everywhere across the frontline, also has bags of experience under his belt having previously played in both the Champions and Europa League competitions, so he would be able to instil a much-needed winning mentality and increase the level of performance in the Midlands.

'The evidence against me is ridiculous' – Jamshed

The former Pakistan batsman said the WhatsApp conversations that the PCB intend to use against him in court were baseless

George Dobell and Umar Farooq13-Jun-2017

The PCB’s charge against Nasir Jamshed•ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Nasir Jamshed found the evidence of corruption against him so “flimsy” that he laughed out loud when he read about it. The former Pakistan batsman was arrested in the UK in February in connection with an investigation into corruption in the 2017 Pakistan Super League. Through its own investigations, the PCB insists Jamshed is a central figure.Four months later, the only charge the board has laid against him is for obstruction and non-cooperation in the investigations. But the PCB has indicated that further, more serious charges can be laid against him, and is waiting for the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) – which arrested Jamshed – to share more evidence with it.And Jamshed is the subject of two concurrent hearings in front of a tribunal constituted by the PCB in Lahore; the main one, in front of a three-man tribunal looking into the obstruction charges and the second, in front of a one-man disciplinary panel, is one Jamshed initiated arguing for his provisional suspension to be lifted. In the meantime, details of a key element of the board’s evidence against him have been leaked, but are, Jamshed insists, so “ridiculous” that he was “amused” when he read them in the media. Eight WhatsApp voice notes, allegedly exchanged between Jamshed and Khalid Latif – another Pakistan batsman facing charges of corruption – first found their way into the media and have now been uploaded to a standalone website. The exchanges, in Urdu, are ostensibly about one or more bat deals; the PCB’s argument is that they are code for corrupt deals.”They claim they have WhatsApp voice messages that show me talking about spot-fixing in code,” Jamshed told ESPNcricinfo in his first interview since his arrest. “But what they actually have is WhatsApp voice messages that show me talking about selling bats. There’s no code involved at all.”I’ve had an arrangement for years whereby I would sell a few CA bats and take a 10% commission. It’s no secret; I’m allowed to do it. I laughed out loud when I saw details of their evidence against me. I was amused. It’s so flimsy. It’s ridiculous.”The guy they say is a bookie… works in a Honda showroom as far as I know … We spoke about him buying some bats from me, but in the end he didn’t.”If that is as good as they have, they should dismiss the case now. They have no evidence of any financial gain and, after all this time, they have not even charged me with spot-fixing or trying to fix a game. They have no real evidence against me.”Those messages, however, are not the only evidence the PCB claims to have against Jamshed. The board says there are witness statements from several players that appear to implicate him. There is also the potential NCA information, which the PCB believes could have a bearing not only on the ongoing hearings against Sharjeel Khan and Latif, but also Jamshed. In fact, the board feels it has enough to continue with proceedings against Jamshed even if he is cleared by the NCA – the PCB’s anti-corruption code being different to the UK criminal code. It has maintained since it laid charges against Jamshed, that it retains the right to level further corruption charges, and that had the board been able to meet him, it would already have done so.”The original corruption investigation is still pending and we have retained our right to bring additional corruption charges at any time we deem fit,” a PCB official told ESPNcricinfo.Jamshed lives with his British-born wife – who during these interviews often acted as his interpreter – in Birmingham, where he too is waiting for the outcome of the NCA investigation. It is expected to conclude in June, with Jamshed either cleared or informed that he will be prosecuted.”We have every confidence in the National Crime Agency,” Jamshed said. “But we have very little confidence in the PCB.”How can we trust them? They have leaked information to the media, they have made up stories about me moving house to avoid the authorities – I’ve been here in Birmingham since January – and the tribunal they have formed to hear my case is made up of former PCB employees. How can that be independent?”Nasir Jamshed has alleged he is being used as a ‘scapegoat’•AFP

The PCB’s anti-corruption code calls for a tribunal to be independent of the board. In this case, it is made up of a former chairman (Tauqir Zia), a former legal advisor (Asghar Haider) and a former employee (Wasim Bari, a former Pakistan captain who has served in a number of different board roles, including as manager of the side as recently as January 2017). None of them are currently working for the PCB, however. Latif has also challenged the constitution of the tribunal, albeit unsuccessfully so far.”I expect the NCA to clear me,” Jamshed said. “But my worry is that I could be cleared by the NCA and found guilty by the PCB. That would still prevent me from playing cricket again. I’ve asked FICA (the international players’ union) for help, but as Pakistan are not affiliated to them, there is not much they can do.”Jamshed is particularly upset by comments made by PCB chairman, Shaharyar Khan, and lawyers working for the board who say he is refusing to return to Pakistan to face charges.”He said I had changed my address and phone number in an attempt not to have any contact with them,” Jamshed said. “But I’ve been here since January. My passport and phone have both been taken off me so I can’t travel. They know that yet they continue to say I’m refusing to return to Pakistan.”The only reason I have been reluctant to meet the PCB in the UK – and yes, they did suggest a London meeting – until now is that I’m not prepared to settle.”It is this refusal to sit down with PCB investigators, who travelled to the UK in April in the hopes of meeting him, that has led to the charges of non-cooperation and obstruction.Jamshed’s explanation of the WhatsApp messages is backed up by a couple of other sources. Jamie Boyle, the captain at Old Elizabethans CC, where Jamshed played in 2016, confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that several members of the club had bought CA bats from him.”Yes, Nasir was selling bats when he was with us,” Boyle said. “There was never any secret in that. I think about four of our team ended up buying one from him.”Naeem Anjum, a first-class cricketer in Pakistan who plays club cricket in England and runs a sports shop, also confirmed he was the one providing bats for Jamshed.”It’s completely legal,” Anjum said. “I obtain a no-objection certificate from the makers and then send bats out depending on the demand. The last time I had an order from Nasir was just before the PSL.”Jamshed alleges that other players have been “coerced” into naming him to save their own careers and that he has been used as a scapegoat by a board keen to be seen as tough on corruption.”The PCB knew I was looking at a future in England,” he said. “I was hoping to play county cricket here. I would still like to after all this has been resolved.”They are so keen to show the world they have cleaned up all the corruption in Pakistan cricket they are looking for a quick resolution to this case. All I can think is that I am seen as expendable.”But some of those other players, such as Khalid Latif, have already raised their concerns about the PCB’s investigation. I’m confident the NCA will clear me and, when they have, I hope the PCB will drop this case.”Jamshed’s main tribunal hearing in which the charges against him will be heard has not begun in earnest; it was due to on May 26, but has been delayed and will resume on June 30.

Tottenham Interested In Signing "Brilliant" £17m Star

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Sevilla's Yassine "Bono" Bounou, with the La Liga club now anticipating serious offers for the goalkeeper, according to a recent report from AS.

What's the latest Tottenham transfer news?

With Tottenham signing Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli for an initial £17.2m earlier in the transfer window, Hugo Lloris' time at the club appears to be coming to ane end, and there have been several teams linked with moves for the Frenchman.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing the goalkeeper, who is out of contract next summer, but Daniel Levy is expected to request a fee to sanction his departure, despite Lloris' desire to leave the club on a free transfer.

Inter Milan have also been named as potential suitors for the 36-year-old, with the Serie A side viewing him as an option to replace Andre Onana, who is now close to completing a move to Manchester United.

Even if Lloris does complete a move away this summer, Ange Postecoglou still has Fraser Foster as a back-up option to Vicario, but reports from Spain indicate that Spurs could also look at signing Bounou.

According to AS, Sevilla are expecting to receive serious offers for the goalkeeper, who is destined to leave this summer, having lost his place in the starting XI last season, with Marko Dmitrovic getting the nod between the sticks towards the end of the campaign.

Tottenham and Inter Milan are said to be interested in signing the Morocco international, who wants to continue competing at the highest level, despite Cristiano Ronaldo recently contacting him over a potential move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Sevilla are willing to sanction the 32-year-old's departure for a fee of around €20m (£17m), and it is considered only a matter of time before potential suitors come forward to discuss a deal.

Is Bono signing for Tottenham?

In truth, it would be a real surprise if the veteran goalkeeper completes a move to north London, given that he wants first-team football, and Spurs have already completed a move for Vicario this summer.

However, if the Sevilla shot-stopper is willing to come in as a back-up option, there is every indication he could be a solid signing, especially considering his performances for Morocco at the Qatar World Cup.

With an average Sofascore match rating of 6.98, the 6 foot 4 shot-stopper was ranked as the fourth-best performing player for the Atlas Lions en-route to the semi-final, and he was hailed for his performances by several members of the media.

yassine-bounou-leeds-united-transfer-illan-meslier

Sports writer John McAuley lauded the Morocco star as "brilliant", while sports journalist Usher Komugisha dubbed him "heroic" for his performance against Spain in the round of 16, during which he kept a clean sheet and saved two penalties in the shoot-out.

With Bounou proving himself on the biggest stage last season, he is likely to want to go to a club where he will be the first-choice goalkeeper, so we feel it is unlikely that he moves to Tottenham this summer.

Newcastle: Howe eyeing "superb" star who’s "similar" to Leroy Sane

Newcastle United have "shown interest" in signing Juventus winger Samuel Iling-Junior, who could be allowed to leave on a loan deal this summer, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

What's the latest Newcastle transfer news?

With Eddie Howe preparing for Champions League football next season, the manager has now identified Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze as a transfer target, however the likes of AC Milan, Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be on his tracks.

The Magpies will have to fend off fierce competition to win the race for the Nigerian, but Howe will be well aware of the need to bring in a new winger, given Allan Saint-Maximin's uncertain future, amid interest from teams in the Saudi Pro League, as well as Everton and Crystal Palace.

Harvey Barnes could be brought in as a replacement for the Frenchman, with the PIF pursuing a move for the England international, who is valued at £40m by Leicester CIty, while Iling-Junior is also emerging as an option.

Newcastle were linked with a move for the 19-year-old back in March, alongside Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea, and there are still a number of top clubs vying for his signature.

That is according to Galetti, who recently told GiveMeSport that Juventus could sanction the youngster's departure this summer, but not on a permanent deal.

The journalist said: “Juventus, for sure, this summer will change something in this squad.

“Some players could leave on loan to grow and improve. Samuel Iling-Junior is one of them.

“He could leave Juventus on loan this summer, and many clubs have shown interest in him. From the Premier League, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Chelsea are monitoring his situation.”

Who is Samuel Iling-Junior?

The Juventus ace, who has stated himself that he is "similar" to Leroy Sane, was born in Islington, and made a number of appearances for Chelsea in the Under 18 Premier League, as well as the UEFA Youth League, before he made the switch to the Serie A.

Since then, the Englishman has risen through the ranks at the Allianz Stadium, making his first-team breakthrough last season, picking up one assist in the Champions League, after making a 20-minute cameo in his side;s 4-3 loss against Benfica.

Despite only receiving limited time on the pitch, the starlet received a 7.4 Sofascore rating, the highest of any Juventus player on the night, and he also made an instant impact in the Serie A, managing to score on his full debut for the club.

Fooball Scout Jacek Kulig has heaped praise on the youngster, describing him as a "flamboyant winger", while also outlining his key traits, which are his dribbling, pace, ball control and bravery.

It is still very early days in his career, but Iling-Junior is showing all the signs he could go on to be a top player, so it is exciting news that Newcastle are monitoring his situation.

That said, Howe will surely be hoping they can sign the £11k-per-week winger on a permanent deal, rather than on loan, as he could be a fantastic long-term replacement for Saint-Maximin.

Man United Could Bin De Gea By Signing "Immense" £77m Titan

The future of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is still uncertain, despite his contract set to expire.

According to The Athletic, United have backed out of an agreement to extend his contract, despite the fact the ‘keeper signed an extension. The Spaniard agreed to lower his £375k-per-week wages that he earned, but the Red Devils didn’t sign the deal, and they have now submitted a new proposal with an even sharper wage decrease which is being considered by the 32-year-old.

It’s a saga which Erik ten Hag would have preferred to avoid during a summer which should be involving bringing better quality players to the club in preparation for the Champions League next season.

Despite winning the Premier League Golden Glove award for keeping the most clean sheets, he committed a host of mistakes, most notably against West Ham United as he let a weak shot from Said Benrahma evade him and a woeful mix-up with Harry Maguire against Sevilla in the Europa League cost them a goal – and perhaps Ten Hag is better off letting the liability depart.

The question is, who would his replacement be? With United looking to make a surprise move for former Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois according to sources in Spain (via Football 365), it could cost them €90m (£77m), as this is the fee that Ten Hag could ‘tempt’ Real Madrid with, as per the report.

Could Manchester United sign Thibaut Courtois this summer?

Regardless if De Gea leaves or not, United still require a world-class shot-stopper ahead of next season, and the Belgian certainly has all the credentials to shine at Old Trafford.

He would bring a winning mentality to the club having claimed a Champions League crown and two La Liga titles since joining Madrid in 2018 along with a host of other honours. The Belgian has also won two Premier League titles, indicating that he would have no difficulty settling in should he move to Manchester.

The former Chelsea star could also be an upgrade on De Gea, as he conceded 0.98 goals per game last term compared to the 1.1 per game that the United ‘keeper let in, while Courtois saved 78.9% of shots faced per 90 during 2022/23, with De Gea saving 71.7% of shots faced per 90 – a significantly higher total in the same time period.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The Madrid gem is also a commanding presence when crosses are delivered into the box, stopping 8.2% per 90, while De Gea manages to stop just 3.1% per 90, and this ability at set pieces could be a big boost for Ten Hag knowing that Courtois could be relied on heavily.

Journalist Josh Bunting lauded his performance against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final as “immense” and the 6 foot 6 titan could bring an added presence to the United defence, which is something that will stand them in good stead during their pursuit of more silverware.

Comilla sign off with eight-run win

Dhaka Dynamites’ loss to Khulna Titans ended Rangpur’s hopes of securing a playoff berth

Rangpur Riders fell short by eight runs against Comilla Victorians and were unable to make it to the playoffs after Khulna Titans beat Dhaka Dynamites later in the evening on sunday. Rangpur were left to rue a batting collapse that cut short their tournament as Comilla signed off with a consolation win.No regrets for Mashrafe after Comilla exit

For the first time in the BPL, there won’t be a Mashrafe Mortaza-led team in the knockout stage of the tournament. Comilla Victorians finished the tournament with five wins.
“It is clear now that we could have made it had we won one of those first five games,” Mashrafe said. “It could have been different too. So there’s no point in having any regret.”
Wearing the analyst’s hat, Mashrafe said Dhaka were the clear favourites for the title. “They have the right balance. They bat deep till No 8 or 9. I think Chittagong was doing well at the later stages, so they will also be competitive.”

Ziaur Rahman waged a fightback to make an unbeaten 21-ball 38, but it wasn’t enough. Mohammad Shahzad did a bulk of the scoring initially – he made 45 of Rangpur’s 57 runs. But the loss of four wickets in the process hampered their chase. When Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan legspinner, had his hero Shahid Afridi stumped off a googly for a 19-ball 38, Rangpur were all but out of the contest. Rashid was the best bowler on the night, taking 3 for 13 off his four overs.Earlier, Comilla werre driven by an 88-run stand in just 10.2 overs between Imrul Kayes and Khalid Latif. Imrul brought up his first fifty this season; he made 52 off just 35 balls with seven fours and two sixes, while Latif struck 43, before the middle order stumbled to ensure they finished with far less than they should have got.For Rangpur, Arafat Sunny and Rubel Hossain took two wickets apiece while Afridi had one.

Tasmania put up some fight on the final day at the MCG but could not prevent a 113-run Victoria win as Scott Boland and Chris Tremain picked up three wickets each. Chasing 365 for an unlikely win, the Tigers began the day on 3 for 19 and were eventually dismissed in the final session for 251, Peter Siddle and Jon Holland finishing with two wickets each.George Bailey (47) and nightwatchman Andrew Fekete (30) proved to be the initial obstacles for Victoria, before James Faulkner led a fighting lower-order effort with 78. Faulkner and Simon Milenko (43) put on 64 for the eighth wicket but could not avoid the inevitable, Faulkner the last man out to the bowling of Tremain.
